The YMCA is proud to have Kelly Graham back for 2009 as our Community Gardens Steward!
Our gardens
The YMCA developed the gardens to:
- create an opportunity for the community to express their gardening interests
- promote a sense of community
- express a sense of beauty within nature
- provide gardening education
- promote environmental awareness
The growing season runs from about April - October every year. Plots are assigned based on current gardener interest and availability. Most plots are 15ft. x 20ft. and cost $25 a season. There are a limited number of plots that measure 25ft. x 25ft. and cost $35 a season.
The Y Community Gardens are currently located on Roanoke Street in Blacksburg. For the 2010 growing season, the gardens will be relocated to the new Hale-YMCA Gardens location off Maywood Street.
Gardening guidelines can be found here.
IMPORTANT UPCOMING GARDEN DATES:
October 17: Fall Clean-up Day, 10 a.m. - noon (Mandatory for gardeners, VOLUNTEERS WELCOME!)
