Belly Dance Fundamentals
This class is an introduction into the theory, style, and fundamental moves used in belly dance. Participants will learn slow, smooth moves as well as fast, rhythmic isolations that will help improve flexibility, strength, coordination, body awareness and confidence - all while dancing and having fun! Students should bring a bright hip scarf, if possible. Taught by Jane Hellman.  For Ages 12 to adult. $50 (6 weeks) $42 (5 weeks). Canning: Apples to Applesauce
A hands-on, "can-along," workshop that will provide a full understanding of canning techniques to help preserve the apple harvest (from the garden or the farmer's market) and eat local all year long. Participants will walk away with several jars of applesauce. All supplies, cannery fees and apples are included. $24. Members of the Waldron Family YMCA will receive a 25% discount on the class. Canning Fruits and Veggies at Home
Is canning something you never got around to learning, even though it sounds intriguing? This is a fun class to teach you all the basics you need to know for successful canning at home. If you’ve never done any canning because you think it’s too complicated, this class will change your mind and your pantry forever. Instructor Marie Goodwin will demonstrate canning techniques for fruits and veggies. All supplies provided. Participants will take home a sampling of their work. $22. Create a Backyard Habitat – Attracting Birds, Butterflies, Bees and Beneficial Bugs
Create a garden using specific plantings and simple water features to attract birds, butterflies, bees and beneficial bugs. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to create a beautiful garden that you and these flying wonders will enjoy. Learn how to have your newly created wildlife habitat certified by the National Wildlife Foundation.  Taught by Rebekah Paulson, owner of Rebekah's Country Garden. $25. Polymer Clay - Bracelet Workshop
These will look so pretty dancing around on your arm! You will be surprised by how easy they are to make. We can make them solid or with elastic strung through them for easy slip on and off. You will have to carry an “armful” home with you, bracelets that is, for you’ll be able to create more than a few. This class is for ages 12 and up. Plant Propagation Basics – Perennials and Groundcover
Participants will enjoy learning about perennials and ground cover in this hands on workshop. Learn propagation tricks and techniques to increase plant volume and maintain the health of your plants. Participants will have the opportunity to take home divisions ready to plant in their garden from a selection of at least 15 plants, along with a booklet of plant propagation information. A bonus will be cuttings from numerous houseplants. Instructor Diane Relf is retired from the Virginia Tech Department of Horticulture where she established the Virginia Extension Master Gardener program. All supplies included in the course fee. Directions to instructor's home will be sent via email to registered students with course reminder. $34 Members of the Waldron Family YMCA will receive a 25% discount on the class. Plants from Seeds and Cuttings
Participants will enjoy learning about starting plants from cuttings and seeds during this hands on workshop in the instructor’s home garden. Learn tricks and techniques to ensure success with your new plants. Participants will receive a booklet of plant propagation information and have the opportunity to take home cuttings from a selection of at least 10 indoor plants and seed from 10 self-seeding annuals. Instructor Diane Relf is retired from the Virginia Tech Department of Horticulture where she established the statewide Virginia Extension Master Gardener program. Tai Chi
Instructor Matthew Komelski will guide you into a place of harmony for body, mind and spirit. This course is open to all levels (ages 10 and up) and will focus on the foundations of Taiji (also known as Tai Chi) mind-body training through simple static postures, silk reeling energy work, taiji walking, and gentle partner training. The reported benefits of regular training in these exercises includes improvements in strength, and balance, as well as added resilience to stress and disease.; Matthew Komelski has studied the martial arts both in the US and abroad and completed his MA in Asian Studies doing interdisciplinary studies in the martial arts through the University of Hawaii. $43 for five weeks.
