Fiction Writing Workshop
How do stories come to life?  How do elements of character, plot, point of view, setting and prose style “lift off” to become a whole greater that its parts? The focus of this workshop is on fiction writing and all that goes into a good story, whether it be a short story, graphic novel, novel, biography, or creative nonfiction. The basics are the same, so bring your story and a pencil to create something all your own. Renee Ryan has published short stories and magazine articles. She is finishing her MFA at Hollins University and is the winner of the Shirley Henn award for outstanding new fiction. $45

Japanese Conversation
This course is designed for the beginning student. The class will cover practical conversational Japanese. Students will learn everyday phrases and common words. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to discuss Japanese culture and traditions. Taught by Mac Horino, a native of Japan. $50

Spanish Conversation - Beginner
Join popular instructor Ricardo Boulware for this beginning Spanish course that emphasizes oral communication and vocabulary on a variety of topics. It covers only the grammar and structure absolutely necessary for speaking. The course is intended for students with no previous knowledge of the Spanish language. Ricardo is an experienced and innovative instructor who has a passion for the Spanish language and for teaching. Note: The two sessions are the same content, but you may enroll in more than one if you wish to repeat the material. $50

Spanish Conversation - Intermediate
Join Ricardo Boulware for this intermediate Spanish course that emphasizes oral communication and vocabulary on a variety of topics. It delves further into grammar and structure necessary for speaking and writing. The course is perfect for students with some knowledge of the Spanish language or who have taken one of Ricardo’s other classes. Ricardo is an experienced and innovative instructor who has a passion for the Spanish language and for teaching. $50

Spanish for Service Professionals
For service professionals who interact with Spanish-speaking clients, this class will help to enable communication, save time in a crisis, and improve workplace efficiency. Learn the basic questions and understand the answers that are vital in emergencies, screenings, and routine interviews. Service workers will learn effective phrases, vocabulary, and questions for a more productive outcome.  Instructor Alexandra Shourds will take an initial survey of the class to identify the specific desired outcomes of class participants.  Alexandra is a Spanish major, who has recently studied in Ecuador.  $75

Turkish Language and Culture
This class will build on everyday conversation skills in the Turkish language, moving on to more advanced subjects involving grammar and vocabulary.  Students will also learn about the influences that have shaped the Turkish culture, including geography, foods, and the lifestyle of the people.  Instructor Pinar Gurdal has been teaching for several years both for Open University and the English Language Institute.  $50
