Belly Dance Fundamentals
This class is an introduction into the theory, style, and fundamental moves used in belly dance. Participants will learn slow, smooth moves as well as fast, rhythmic isolations that will help improve flexibility, strength, coordination, body awareness and confidence - all while dancing and having fun! Students should bring a bright hip scarf, if possible. Taught by Jane Hellman.  For adults and kids ages 12 and up. $50 (6 weeks) $42 (5 weeks). Members of the Waldron Family YMCA will receive a 25% discount on the classes below. Please call 961-9622 to register if you are a member.

Finding and Identifying Rocks
Are you a “rock hound” or budding amateur geologist? Do you find rocks and wonder what they are? Rock and mineral collecting is a fascinating hobby that can be shared by the entire family. Learn how to find and identify common rocks from the New River Valley region and discover what’s in these rocks and the conditions under which they formed. Bring local rocks to class for identification if you have them. Students should bring a hand lens,10X or greater, (available at the VT Bookstore) and a pocket knife if you have one. Ages 11 to adult. $25

Little Computer Bugs
Every class brings new learning experiences designed to teach children (ages 3-6) how to think creatively, express their ideas, and apply the skills they are learning to solve problems and accomplish goals. Imagine Tomorrow’s unique approach takes fundamental literacy concepts and brings them to life for children by immersing them in a story where they get to become the main character. Every class combines interactive video and exclusive software that allows children to work in a group setting, yet advance at their own pace. Each student is provided with their own laptop for use in the classroom and parents will get a special login to continue the fun-based learning at home. This innovative program is designed to prepare all young children with the skills necessary to succeed in their future while having a lot of fun along the way!  Instructor Andy Richards has over 23 years of teaching experience.  For more information please visit www.littlecomputerbugs.com.  $68 for 6-week sessions. Polymer Clay Gadgets and Trinkets
This is not a variety show, but a variety class!  Go home with a collection of items customized by your own hands.  You will find these items useful over and over again.  You could make refillable ink pens, a charm for key chains or lanyards, a pendant for your neck, a picture holder that serves as a paper weight, some magnets for your school locker, a pencil holder or some simple beads.  We will create it and you will use it.  Ages 10 and up.  $30 plus $10 supply fee to instructor.

Polymer Clay – Holiday Ornaments
How about making old-fashioned ribbon candy, star mints, or jelly slices out of polymer clay?  They look so real!  Now, what to do with the faux candy you make?  We will turn them into jewelry, ornaments, buttons, magnets, or maybe embellishments for gift-wrapping!  Ages 12 to adult.  $30

Polymer Clay - Bracelet Workshop
These will look so pretty dancing around on your arm! You will be surprised by how easy they are to make. We can make them solid or with elastic strung through them for easy slip on and off. You will have to carry an “armful” home with you, bracelets that is, for you’ll be able to create more than a few. This class is for ages 12 and up. $30

Terrariums – Create Your Own Ecosystem
Open to all ages! Learn to create a miniature ecosystem inside a glass container. You'll learn to construct and maintain a terrarium and what plants grow well in them. All supplies will be available to purchase from the instructor, but you can bring your own clear glass container if you have one, small plants, or other objects like interesting rocks, ceramic animals, lichens, pieces of mirror to make a "pond", driftwood, branches with fungi attached. All the terrarium (plant) residents need to be of similar light needs. Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirt on! Erica Jones returns to Open University for her third year of teaching and is a Master Gardener. $15 plus supply fee to instructor (will vary depending on what you bring/purchase).

Real Live Raptors
Come learn about birds of prey – what they eat, how they catch it, their role in the ecosystem. Did you know that raptors can be indicators of environmental health? Instructor Katie Fallon will bring two live birds to aide in her talk. She will also discuss the work that is conducted at the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center. Come see the live birds and learn all about them! Ages 12 to adult. $10

Youth Kung Fu
The basic class physical curriculum consists of simple routines to develop your child’s strength, agility and stamina. Proficiency in these routines creates a foundation for more advanced studies in Kungfu, and can also be a fun way for your young athlete to cross train. Other aspects of the curriculum include leadership, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Dragon Tiger Eagle was founded by Grandmaster Kwong Chi Chung of Radford Virginia. Instructors are Matthew F. Komelski, Director of Giles County Wellness Center’s Youth Kungfu Program, and Diego Simoes, assistant instructor. Ages 7-11. $60
