A Taste Of Art
Add a taste of art to your life! Bring your favorite bottle of wine to this low-key class. It’s a great opportunity for anyone wanting to enjoy the thrill of creativity and the company of good friends. Follow the stroke-by-stroke instructions or tap into your wild, avant-garde side. It is completely up to you. Have a good time and some good wine. Make some new friends and at the end of the night you take home your masterpiece. All supplies included. No experience necessary.  Classes are led by Leslye Bloom. $35

Batik Basics
Students will learn basic batik techniques by applying molten wax with a tjjuning tool to fabric and then dying their fabric. Successive wax layers and dye baths will create unique colorful images. There will be various fabric and dye options. Students will have the opportunity to explore the chemical reactions of the dye process and will work towards making a wall hanging. Taught by Becky Lattuca. $118 (includes all supplies)

Drawing Realistic Faces
If you’ve always wanted to draw realistic looking drawings of people, instructor Lisa Woods will guide you step-by-step through the process. You will learn how to use a grid to achieve an accurate line drawing, learn placement of tones to add the illusion of three dimensional and blending techniques using a variety of tools. Each student should bring a sample drawing to be used as a starting reference. $75

Japanese Calligraphy
This class will introduce students to the art of Japanese calligraphy. Students will learn the correct stroke style and order to create beautiful Japanese characters. Supplies will be provided. Taught by Mac Horino, a native of Japan. $40, plus $10 supply fee payable to the instructor.

Photography 101 – Easy Ways to Improve Your Pictures
This new course will teach you how to use your camera to take better pictures. We will discuss features of the camera that affect the outcome of the final photograph including ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. We’ll also discuss how light and composition affects the final photograph. You’ll even learn how to take your own professional portrait. There will be hands-on work in class as well as at home assignments to practice what you’ve learned. You’ll need a camera with at least some manual control options (Tv, Av, and M setting options).; Paula Johansen is a freelance photographer who specializes in portraits, team sports, landscapes and still life photography. www.PaulaJPhotography.com. $60

Polymer Clay Basics
This is Teri Walters' basic class that includes everything you need to know to get started with polymer clay. From the tools, to conditioning the clay, to using your pasta machine, numerous tips and techniques including basic millefori cane work will be covered. Some of the basic cane designs students will make include stripes, checkerboard, bulls eye, scalloped effects, herringbone, a “lace pattern”, spiral, and skinner blends. Although this class is not project oriented, students will take home a simple project or two. $42

Polymer Clay - Bracelet Workshop
These will look so pretty dancing around on your arm! You will be surprised by how easy they are to make. We can make them solid or with elastic strung through them for easy slip on and off. You will have to carry an “armful” home with you, bracelets that is, for you’ll be able to create more than a few. Taught by Teri Walters. This class is for ages 12 and up. $30

Polymer Clay – Design A Ring Holder
Where are your rings when they are not on your fingers or toes? These delightful creations will keep your rings not only organized but will add a conversation piece to your shelf. Cats and hound dogs are always a popular choice, but a sombrero hat is also neat and very functional. No matter what you design, you won’t have an excuse to misplace your rings ever again. Taught by Teri Walters. $30

Polymer Clay – Holiday Ornaments
How about making old-fashioned ribbon candy, star mints, or jelly slices out of polymer clay? They look so real! Now, what to do with the faux candy you make? We will turn them into jewelry, ornaments, buttons, magnets, or maybe embellishments for gift-wrapping! Join instructor Teri Walters for this fun Satruday morning class. Appropriate for adults and children 12 and up. $30

Stained Glass
Learn the copper foil method of stained glass construction with local artist Nancy Norton. An exhibitor at Steppin’ Out and the YMCA Crafts Fair, Nancy has studied at the John C. Campbell Folk School and Cedar Lakes Craft Center. She’ll show you how to create suncatchers or small panels, either from your own designs or pre-drawn patterns, as you prefer. See your creativity literally shine in the results! Students should bring Latex gloves, safety glasses, and newspaper to class. $75, plus $30 supply fee payable to instructor.

Stained Glass - Holiday Ornaments
Learn basic stained glass copper foil techniques while constructing holiday-themed ornaments or suncatchers. Bring your own designs or use those provided by the instructor. All required materials and supplies will be provided but students should feel free to bring objects they want to incorporate into their ornaments. Nancy Norton, a local artist and exhibitor at Steppin' Out, the YMCA Crafts Fair, New River Arts, Art Along the Alley, and Art at the Market has studied at the John C. Campbell Folk School, Cedar Lakes Crafts Center, and Jacksonville Center for the Arts. She has been teaching stained glass courses for the YMCA for several years. Students should bring Latex gloves, safety glasses, and newspaper. $50, plus $20 supply fee to instructor

Stone Carving Workshop
Not sure stone carving is for you? Try this half-day class led by Sue Brozovsky and take a small stone from its raw to finished state. Bring your favorite pair of work gloves and a willing spirit. We will be working with alabaster and soapstone the size of a quarter to a silver dollar. Stone and tools are covered by the supply fee which is payable to the instructor. $40, plus $32 supply fee to instructor. (Class location is about 30 minutes from downtown Blackburg - directions will be sent via email to enrolled students with the reminder).

Stone Carving
Join instructor Sue Brozovsky for this workshop where we'll cover the entire process of creating a sculpture,from stone selection, to carving and refining, to the finish stage. Design is your option; you may have something in mind, or you can see what develops as you work. If you have a favorite pair of work gloves, bring them. Tools are covered by the supply fee which is payable to the instructor. Stone used will be either alabaster or soapstone your choice and costs $2 - $4 a pound. $75, plus $30 supply fee payable to instructor. (Class location is about 30 minutes from downtown Blacksburg. Directions will be sent to enrolled students with the reminder).

Quilted Tote Bag
Learn many fun and useful quilting techniques while creating a cute, versatile and extremely addictive bag! This project is lots of fun for quilters and sewers of all skill levels. If you can sew a seam, you can make this quilted bag in your choice of two sizes. Instructor Karen Brown bets you can't make just one! Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours. Supply list will be posted online. $40

You Can Sew!
Always wanted to learn to sew? Learn all the basics while completing a simple clothing item. Karen Brown will help you with pattern selection and provide step-by-step guidance throughout your project. After this class, you can let your skills take you in any direction that interests you...fashion, quilting, costumes, home decor, hemming and alterations, and crafting. The possibilities are endless when YOU CAN SEW! Get acquainted with your own sewing machine or use one of ours. First class meets at JoAnn Fabrics in Christiansburg to purchase supplies. $60
