Twelve athletes representing Fall Mountain Special Olympics recently returned from the New Hampshire Special Olympics 2009 Winter Games weighed down with a total of 32 medals, including 8 bronze, 15 silver, and 9 gold.
This year’s Fall Mountain team competed in downhill skiing and snowshoe events over the course of 3 days at Waterville Valley. Athletes ranged in age from 8-46, and were accompanied by a team of coaches and family members. At the Games athletes are grouped by gender, age, and ability, so that each race is truly competitive.
In accordance with FMSO tradition, if each participant earns at least one medal over the course of any given competition, the entire team gets the opportunity to shave the head of Coach Al Langlais. Needless to say, the FMSO Head Coach is now quite bald.
