PURPOSE:The 2009 State Agency Wellness Conference: Moving Agencies into Action will provide attendees with knowledge, skills and tools to effectively implement the six wellness activities recommended by the Worksite Wellness Advisory Board. Additionally, participants will learn about provisions for worksite wellness in state policy and wellness benefits already available to state employees through the Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) administered by the Employees Retirement System of Texas.This conference will bring together wellness planners from diverse state agencies to learn and network about wellness opportunities, resources, and best practices.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES:
Conference Attendees will:
Discover evidence-based practices and resources for implementation of worksite wellness programs in their agency,
Increase their knowledge, skills and ability to implement the six wellness activities recommended by the Worksite Wellness Advisory Board,
Identify changes in their agency they can make to better support the physical and mental health of their employees,
Develop goals and objectives for implementation of wellness program activities in their agency within the next year.

State agency leaders, human resources staff, benefit coordinators, wellness liaisons,wellness planners, wellness committee members, and any other state employees involved with or interested in starting wellness activities in their agency.

Reinventing Vital Statistics for Tomorrow's Challenges

Technology is the key to our success and literally surrounds us from
the time of our birth until our death and throughout our lives. It is
the standard for the future and we need to embrace it! (And hopefully
manage to catch up with our 3rd graders!) So as we advance into the
future, it is critical that we take on strong leadership roles to guide
ourselves and our constituents to a successful end. Make plans today to

Unit and co-sponsored by the Texas Public Health Association.*
This Years Keynote Speaker
We
are pleased to announce that this years Annual Conference Keynote
Speaker is Dr. Aliya Hussaini. Dr. Aliya Hussaini is the grant officer,
health portfolio, at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. Dr.
Hussaini is a physician who completed her undergraduate studies at
Swarthmore College, where she earned a BA in Biology and Economics. She
completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago
before pursuing clinical training in Pediatrics at Yale New Haven
Children's Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident.
Following her clinical training, she completed the Robert Wood
Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania,
where she earned a MS in Health Policy Research. In her most recent
position, she worked at the Texas Department of State Health Services
as the Manager of Program and Policy Development for the Purchased
Health Services Unit, which includes the Children with Special Health
Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program, Kidney Health Care Program,
Hemophilia Assistance Program, and Glenda Dawson Donate Life-Texas
Registry, as well as the Assistant Medical Director for the CSHCN
Services Program.
