"Putting the “Force” Into the Public Health Workforce: Part A-Changes and Challenges in the Public Health Workforce"
http://www.astho.org/pubs/WorkforceReport.pdf

Workforce Trends Point To A Future with Fewer Public Health Professionals and Increased Public Health Needs (Arlington, VA) March 13, 2008 - New data from a survey by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) shows that the public health workforce is shrinking, the pool of new public health professionals is limited, and states are at a disadvantage in competing for the few workers available. As the public health workforce shrinks, state health agencies will face mounting pressures to meet traditional and emerging threats to the public's health.
