| Classes for Children & Teens July and August 2008
Call (585) 396-5950 to register and for more information.
“A solid art education encourages self-esteem, communication, and sensitivity and exposure to world cultures. Thinking in terms of art develops spatial relationships and geometric skills, creative problem solving, and deeper understanding of the connections between ideas, people, and culture. My goals are to create classes that are not only rich in skill-building, but stimulate the intellect, create curiosity, and foster critical thinking. Many projects will be completely open-ended while others will lead the children down a path for which only I know where we are headed- hoping to create a sense of wonder and surprise and excitement. No finished examples will be given! Children will experience the delight of having gained new skills and new friends.” - Mary Riley, professional artist and SBCC’s Art Club Coordinator
Mary will be assisted by Eleanor Roach, a graduate of SUNY Geneseo (B.A. in Theatre with a focus in Costume Design) and an expert sewer!
Art Club (ages 7-10) Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Come join the Art Club! Have you ever made giant papier-mâché animals? How about a Chinese dragon, a giant play dough sculpture, or a 3-D skyscraper? Discover how to weave paper, write poems, press flowers, and create beads, puppets, and handmade paper with your new Art Club friends! Sew your own sack on a sewing machine for a sack race! Make a bowl out of yarn! We are going to have a great time! Bring a bagged lunch and join in the fun.
