SIUSLAW PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT SERVICES

The mission statement of the Siuslaw Public Library District:

 "In the tradition of the human ideal of freedom of thought and speech, the Siuslaw Public Library strives to be a warm, inviting place accessible to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, addressing the priorities of lifelong learning, knowledge acquisition, and quality materials on topics of current interest.",

reflects our commitment to the concept of quality public service. In keeping with this commitment, the Siuslaw Public Library District offers the following services:

  • General collection of over 85,000 items, including print, recorded media and computer databases
  • Special collections, including:
    • Frank Herbert collection
    • Career and education, with dedicated computers, print and video materials and an Oregon Employment Department kiosk to help job-seekers
    • Oregon and local history, with local oral history tapes made by Kim Stafford, back issues of the Siuslaw Pioneer, Lane County Historian (1962-present), Oregon Historical Quarterly (1938-present), and local newspapers on microfilm (1891-present). 
    • Genealogy, with two microfilm/fiche readers and a dedicated computer with access to Heritage Quest and Heritage Trail Press on-line databases
    • Large print materials, both fiction and non-fiction, as well as Reader's Digest Magazine in large print
    • Recorded books on audiocassette and CD
    • Preschool theme kits for child care providers and home schoolers
    • Homeshooling resource collection
    • Parenting resource collection
    • Skill builder's collection, including literacy materials, life skills materials and English as a second language materials
    • Spanish language and bilingual (Spanish/English) materials for adults and children, both print and recorded media
  • Equipment, including computers for word and data processing as well as Internet access, a wireless access point, a typewriter, a photocopier station, and a vision enhancement machine.
  • Lobby art gallery
  • Reference and information services, including reader's advisory and interlibrary loan
  • Programs for adults and children, including:
    • Summer reading program for all ages
    • Preschool storytimes Tuesday and Friday 10:30-11:00 am, year-round
    • Holiday craft fair for children
    • Programs on a variety of subjects, co-sponsored by Friends of the Library
    • Support for book discussion groups  
    • Family movie nights on First Tuesdays
    • Adult movie nights on Third Tuesdays
