Please Keep Eric in Your Prayers
While He is Fighting to Protect Our Freedom So He Returns Home Safely to Melissa and His
Cherished Pets!

Gage and JP

I just wanted you to know how much Eric and I love and adore "Gage" and "JP" -- whom we named Seamus and Calvin, respectively. Calvin, if you'll remember, was a very quiet, extremely timid tiny grey kitten, and I chose him specifically because he needed someone to show him that he was special and loved, and I wanted to be the one to make him a trusting kitty once again. Well, he far surpassed anything I could have hoped! It took about a week and a half for him to not run away from footsteps, but now he is the best little cuddlebug in the world. He and Seamus cuddle with each other, too...in fact, they warmed up to each other immediately and are the very best of friends! They play together whenever they're not snoozing, and even give each other baths -- that's love right there!

Thank you so much for choosing Eric and I to be parents of such amazing and loving cats. We treat them like our kids, and every night when Eric calls from Iraq they come running to where I am so they they can purr on the phone to Daddy (Seamus has the loudest motor ever!). Thank you once again. I hope this finds you well and enjoying your holiday season so far. Good luck with everything you take on in the next year...and know that there are hundreds of people like us who are so appreciative of your endeavors and for helping up expand our 'family'.

Take care, Melissa Hoy

Ralphie became a member of our family in Nov. 2006. He is a little sweetheart!!!

He has brought a lot of joy and laughter into our home with his antics.

Our cat Megan has become his adopted Mom. We wouldn't trade him for a million dollars!!!

Henri

Ms. Violet came to Second Chance as an older, pregnant, sick and malnurished cat.  Due to her age and condition, she lost her kittens who were born dead.  She recuperated in her foster home until she was ready to look for her "purrfect" new family.  She was at the PETsMART on Amelia Drive for about 3 weeks when her new mom and dad fell in love with her.

She now spends her days watching the seagulls from her special bed in the glass window overlooking Lake Erie.  She has become what Second Chance wishes for all their rescue animals: A Cherished and Loved Pet!

GiGi

Who would possibly want a 10 year old, unspayed female dog whose teeth were rotting out of her head? Second Chance did and we immediately took her  to our veterinarian for the most basic medical care she needed at that time.

She was put into a foster home until our vet felt she was a candidate for surgery and at that time she had all but 6 of her teeth removed and she was spayed.

A wonderful family saw her picture on our website. We set up an interview and a meet and greet at their home and GIGI is now the cherished  pet of the Warner Family in East Aurora.

Anastaysha

When our volunteer, Tina, first saw this precious little pup, she did not look like this. She had been left at the Buffalo City Shelter by her owners because they had a new baby.

She was dirty, matted and terrified. To make matters worse, she was no spring chicken. She had the kind and gentle heart of a young pup, but was almost 9 years old.

What we found when we had her groomed was a beautiful little dog and she was immediately adopted by a family who had just lost their dog to cancer. Another happy Second Chance ending!!

Updates from Pixie's Parents

Pixie

Remember Pixie??  She is our poster "kitty" for what makes all the sacrifices that our volunteers make all worth while!

Pixie was severely abused by her former so called "owner" to such an extent that she had a ruptured eardrum and two broken teeth when we took her.  After many vet visits, lots of tender care and loving, she finally was ready for her own  forever home.  A wonderful family fell in love with her, and as you can see, she is living the good life.  Since our last update on Pixie, she had to have ALL her teeth removed.  Don't worry about Pixie, she is doing well and is loving life even without her teeth.

Another job well done by all the dedicated and caring volunteers at Second Chance!

Sasha

She was nothing special to look at, just another of the many homeless and unloved animals at the local city shelter.  Huddling in the back of her kennel, she barely made eye contact with our volunteer who was trying to get her attention. "C4" as Sasha was then know as, was a mere 22 pounds of frightened and quivering dog unable to walk properly as she had probable been in a crate or cage all her life.

Sasha was immediately taken to our vet, received all the appropriate medical care and put into a foster home.

Sasha, with the guidance of Lori and Carol our foster parents, learned to play, wag her tail and for the first time in her life become a part of a family.  She immediately put on weight and began to blossom into the wonderful dog that on Saturday, October 15th was adopted and went to her new "forever home" to become a cherished and loved pet.

Thank you to the Duckworth Family for adopting and loving Sasha!

From Rags To Riches

It is hard to believe seeing this picture, but Maggie Mae (top) and her kitten, Sweet Melissa (bottom) did not always look this good.  They had not had a very good beginning in life, however, as you can see they are doing just find now as the cherished pets of Mike and Debbie.

Thanks to Mike and Debbie for loving them!
