Short Biographies of Seacoast Academy Faculty
Deborah Hobbs is our math teacher. She has taught math through Algebra II and Geometry at both the middle school and high school levels. She also taught science, computers and religion. In schooling her two daughters at home through grade eight, Debbie developed and implemented curriculum across all disciplines. For five years, Debbie directed the Religious Education Program at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. She has also coached an area swim team.
Craig W. Kerrick is our Assistant Head of School and one of our English teachers. Craig brings more than thirty years of experience as a teacher and administrator in independent schools to Seacoast Academy. He has taught American Studies and English from grade five through grade twelve, including Advanced Placement English. He has also served as English Department Chair, Upper School Coordinator and Assistant Head of School. Craig participated in a one-year teacher exchange program with Methodist Ladies’ College in Melbourne, Australia, where he taught and developed strategies for integrating laptop computers into the English curriculum. Based on summer research from two grants, Craig authored a manual for faculty, “Writing Across the Disciplines.”
Wendy Bayer Dillon teaches Music and Drama. Wendy has taught general music, chorus, and madrigals at both the middle school and high school levels. She has also been Assistant Director and/or Musical Director for many student performances. While at Thomaston High School in Connecticut, Wendy revised the high school music curriculum to incorporate the National Standards for Arts Education, organized the Thomaston High School Performing Arts Booster Club, and founded the Music Theater Club.
Arin Jordan is our Physical Education teacher. He is a recent graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in physical education. He did his student teaching at Seabrook Elementary School and Seabrook Middle School. Immediately after graduation, Seabrook hired Arin as a substitute teacher. In addition to teaching, Arin has coached hockey, soccer, and basketball and has experience with outdoor experiential education.
Our science teacher, Lynne Standish has experience teaching science in both private and public school settings and at both the middle school and high school level. For four years Lynne worked as a naturalist at the New England Aquarium Boat Program. Two summers ago, she worked as a counselor at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH. This past summer, Lynne attended the Phillips Exeter Academy Science Institute and taught at the Access Exeter summer program. Last year Lynne was named a National Science Teacher Association Fellow. Lynne has also volunteered with City Year Boston and AmeriCorps. She holds a Master of Science degree in Education.
Christian Hulseman taught briefly at the high school level before he found that his real passion was the middle school age. Christian taught middle school social studies for two years before leaving with his family for an adventure in Italy. Having recently returned to the United States he has again found his way into a middle school classroom as a sixth and seventh grade humanities teacher at Seacoast Academy.
Barbara Rita Jenny, our visual arts teacher, returned to her alma mater, Phillips Exeter Academy, after graduating with a degree in art from Dartmouth College. She taught studio art at Phillips Exeter for 10 years and has also taught at Exeter Center for Creative Arts (ECCA), where she also served as its Executive Director. Barbara earned her Master's degree in Studio Arts and Critical Theory from Maine College of Art.
Ron King has taught middle school and high school social studies and English for 19 years. Most recently, he taught English at St. Thomas High School in Dover. In October 2007, Ron published his first novel, Quantum July, designed for middle school readers. Ron teaches 7th and 8th grade English and 8th grade humanities.
Cate Murphy has taught both Spanish and French at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She has taught or substituted at Cooperative Middle School, Exeter High School, Newfields Elementary, The Country Day School of San Jose, Costa Rica, and most recently, at Rye Elementary, where she helped design and implement the World Language curriculum. Cate earned her B.A. from Grinnell College and her M.B.A. from Suffolk University. Cate teaches one section of sixth grade Spanish.
Sarah Sebald is a graduate from University of New Hampshire with a degree in Spanish. She spent several years privately tutoring Spanish, substitute teaching at Oyster River High School, and traveling and working in Costa Rica. She also has taught Spanish with One World Languages in Durham for the last 2 years. During the 2008-2009 school year at Seacoast Academy she taught her first course as a middle school Spanish teacher, and she is thrilled to be back this year for her first full-time position.
