ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
We hope to attract students who, in keeping with our mission statement, strive toward excellence to be the best they can be, who have a passion for learning, curiosity, and respect for others. We are attracted to students who have an interest outside of the core curriculum, a dedication to an enriching activity that can inform their academic life.

We will be selective in our admissions process in terms of character, firmly believing that a child’s moral and ethical fabric will play a key role in that student’s identity as a learner. As a way of assessing character and writing ability, students will be asked to complete two written exercises, one on-site writing exercise and the other an at-home application exercise, as part of the application process that can help to flesh out this dimension. In addition, the interview will allow for a one-on-one opportunity to understand the applicant’s character. These will remain in-house documents.

Academic selectivity will also play a role in our policy, as we strive to accept the best students possible for our school. Assessment in this area comes in four important parts. Students will provide writing samples (see above) that will allow us to assess their writing skills, both prepared and timed. Applicants are encouraged to take the SSATs. Applicants will also be asked to provide teacher recommendations and a current school grade transcript. Lastly and just as important, we will have conversations (the interview) with all candidates to get to know them as young adults and emerging scholars.

We will strive to admit a student body to Seacoast Academy that is as diverse as possible and will continue a generous need-based scholarship program.

SSAT
Applicants are required to take the SSAT as part of their application process.
Seacoast Academy's school code is 7226.

Parent Feedback:

The following are quotes and excerpts from parents about Seacoast Academy:

During the March vacation, we met up with friends of mine.Susan is Head of the Math Dept at University of _________. She asked _________ & _________what they liked the most about their "new school'.With a split second pause, they bothanswered, "The teachers; they are so fun!"

The mid-year adjustment was tough. I am so grateful to all the boys’teachers to help and explain to them what they needed to know to pick up and go. The whole environment of Seacoast Academy was so positive and supportive. We are lucky to be at Seacoast Academy.

This school has dramatically changed _______’s life!!Before Seacoast, we had to drag her to the bus...sometimes in her pajamas. Now, she is always waiting at the door, lunch and bag in hand!"

We had to choose between moving to NJ where my husband works or staying here so our son could stay at Seacoast Academy. It was a very difficult decision but we decided to stay put.______is so happy and doing so well at SA and you just can’t assume that this can be replicated at another school, even one with a good reputation.

Dear Scott,

Last year getting _______ to school was a nightmare. Each day was a 30-minute fight to get her out of bed, dressed, and in the car.She hated school. This year, despite working harder to earn lower grades, my daughter loves coming to school each day. There are no more struggles, and she even stated that she looks forward to returning to school at the end of vacation.Thank you for giving me back my morning coffee!

Hello Mr. Kerrick,

I thought it would be nice to share with you some of the wonderful changes we have seen in ________ (specifically over the past month or so).Homework is no longer the torment it used to be.I attribute this to ____ using his daytimer faithfully, he seems to have a very clear idea of what is expected each night. He also has been using the phrases "don't worry about the quiz tomorrow Mom I have been paying better attention in class, I know the material".He appears to have considerably more confidence in his abilities as a student. In turn it is rubbing off on his mother, I actually enjoy a cup of tea at night.
He is essentially managing his homework independently, I am no longer checking his work for completion and/or accuracy.I still play a role in reviewing each night the upcoming commitments (hockey, projects, music, etc.).His preference to procrastinate continues however, we have noticed some effort to change. He came home yesterday and announced he worked in school to complete his homework as he knew he had violin and a very late hockey game.Wow!!!
