Board of Directors

Margo Beck

Margo Beck worked in New York City as a producer for film, television and theater before moving to Saratoga Springs in 1994. She is a graduate of Skidmore College, with a major in Urban Planning and 19th Century American Architecture and is currently getting her Master's in Architecture from RPI in the Building Conservation program. She is a former board member of the Saratoga Springs Film Forum and of the Saratoga Shakespeare Company.

Geoff Bornemann
Geoff Bornemann recently retired from the City of Saratoga Springs where he served 22 years as the City Planner. He assisted with several expansions of the City's Historic Districts, the development of Historic Preservation Plan, administered numerous historic preservation grants and staffed the City's Design Review Commission. He began his career as a land use planner for the Saratoga Associates. He joined the City after 10 years with the Capital District Planning Commission where he served as Director of Planning.  Geoff and his wife Nancy Sharples reside in a house in the East Side Historic District.
Christine Carsky

Christine Carsky is an attorney with DeGraff, Foy, Kunz & Devine, LLP in Saratoga Springs. She has a broad base of experience with her primary practice in civil litigation, contract and real estate related work for corporate clients. She has prosecuted and defended personal injury, health insurance and condemnation cases and has held numerous positions representing local governments and their boards, especially in the area of code enforcement and constitutional law. Chris is a graduate of Albany Law School and has been admitted to practice in New York and Florida since 1981. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colgate University where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Chris is a member of the Saratoga County Bar Association, the Capital District Women’s Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Tamie Ehinger

Tamie Ehinger, and her husband George, are recent transplants to Saratoga from San Francisco, CA.  Tamie is an advertising account executive and has worked for a variety of magazines and publishing companies on both the east and the west coasts of the U.S.  A polo player herself (in San Francisco she played with Wine Country Polo Club, here she plays with the Saratoga Polo Association), she is currently the Associate Publisher of Saratoga Polo Magazine.  Tamie and George are restoring a historic property in town and have been recognized by the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation numerous times this past year for the work that they have done.

Tom Frost

Tom is a well known Saratoga architect. Frost Architecture specializes in residential and commercial architecture, including additions, restorations and renovations of homes in historic districts, as well as several new downtown buildings. Frost Architecture is located on Long Alley. Tom is the founding father and President of Head of the Fish rowing regatta. He is married to Carol Tarantino, top selling realtor for Roohan Realty for over 20 years. Tom and Carol live in a converted carriage house.

Michele Funiciello

Michele Funiciello and her husband Dieter are the proprietors of the Circular Manor Bed and Breakfast.   Michele grew up locally and returned to the area after living in Boston in the early 90’s. In 1996 Michele and her husband Dieter became very involved in their first preservation project after the Funiciello family purchased the properties of 116 and 120 Circular St. Later 120 Circular became the Bed and Breakfast known as Circular Manor. The preservation experience as well as living in Saratoga Springs clearly has reinforced Michele’s commitment to the preservation of this historic city.

Dave Godette

Dave Godette has been married to the same woman now (Carol) for 27 years and have two children, Brad, 21 and Kristy, 18. They are both a joy and a challenge! They reside at 308 Nelson Avenue, a house his wife grew up in. He has served on two other boards, Saratoga Shakespeare and The Saratoga Independent School. Dave has a masters degree in forest biology, and formerly taught biology and chemistry but now spends his time tending to his businesses. Carol and Dave are part owners of the Saratoga Ben and Jerry’s and one in Albany and Troy as well. Besides running Dave’s Painting, LLC, he also owns and manages ten apartment buildings in the capital district from Albany to Lake George. Some of Dave’s interests include gardening, boating, scuba diving, travel and if his body will allow, tennis.

Cheryl Gold, Treasurer

Born and raised in California, Cheryl came east for graduate school (Museum Studies at Cooperstown), met her husband (Jim Gold) and never left. She recently retired after 30 years with NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. During that tenure Cheryl supervised a variety of Parks and Sites in the northeastern part of the State. In the last 5 years she served as Assistant Regional Director, overseeing planning, engineering, land acquisition, restoration and grants as well as day to day operations at over 20 facilities

 Cheryl is a returning board member of the Preservation Foundation and has been a member of the Foundation’s Major Properties Committee for many years. Besides historic preservation, Cheryl has been active with the Friends of the Library, serving as President and Treasurer and administering the Ex Libris Society. While working with Parks, she was one of the founders of Winterfest. She also served on the Board of the Saratoga Care Foundation and the Convention and Tourism Bureau. 
 
Stewart Hatch 
 
Stewart is a Vice President at the Adirondack Trust Company in teh Commercial Lending Department.  Prior to joining the Adirondack Trust Compnay, Stewart worked fro Troy Savings Bank and Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company.  A graduate of Castleton State College, Stewart has served on many local non-profit boards.  He is a resident of Clifton Park.   
 
Matthew Jones

Matthew Jones is an attorney with Jones Ferradino Attorneys at Law.  Matt is serving a one-year term on the board as the Mayor’s appointment to the board. His law practice focuses on Real Estate Development (Zoning/Planning), Civil Litigation and Appellate Practice, Real Estate Closings, and Business and Corporate. Matt has served as a member and officer of numerous civic, professional and corporate boards. He received his law degree from the University of Houston School of Law. He is a life-long Saratogian, graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and was a Yaddo Medalist.

Richard Kline

Originally from Johnstown, New York, Richard Graduated From Marist College in 1983, with a BFA. For the last 20 years he has worked in the city of Saratoga Springs as president of Shannon-Rose Design. Shannon-Rose is one of the premier Creative, Design, and web development firms in the Capital Region. He has over-seen the development of projects for many local, regional and national businesses. His company has been helpful to many not-for-profit organizations throughout the community, such as Saratoga Plan, Saratoga Preservation Foundation, Saratoga Visitor Center, Saratoga Arts Council, National Speedskating Museum, Home Made Theatre, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and The National Museum of Dance.  In 1998 Richard and His wife Kristina purchased a 145 year old home in the historic downtown business district, and converted the carriage house into his new business address. Together they are slowly reconditioning the main residential building, an Italianate structure, back to its original form.

James Kettlewell (Emeritus)

James Kettlewell received his B.A. and M.A. from Harvard University. After graduating, he worked as teaching fellow at Harvard and as the assistant curator at the Fogg Museum. He was also one of the founding curators of the Museum of Ogunquit, Maine. In 1954, James was a Fulbright Scholar and in 1957, began teaching at Skidmore College in the art history department where he remained until his retirement in 1998. James also worked as curator of the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. He is the author of Saratoga Springs: An Architectural History.

Greg Kern

Greg Kern owns and operates Quarter Sawn Construction, a full service construction and general contracting company specializing in residential and commercial renovations and new construction. Recent projects include the renovation of an 1850's farmhouse in Saratoga Springs, an addition and total renovation of a1920's Tutor-style residence in Rye, NY, the renovation and restoration of 1860's Carpenter-Gothic residence in Tuxedo, NY, and designing and building a 3000 square-foot Post and Beam barn in Tuxedo, NY. Greg received his BA from the State University of New York at Oneonta.

Doug Kerr, President

Doug Kerr is retired from the New York State Power Authority where he developed and licensed power projects, and marketed electricity. He also has experience as an urban and transportation planning consultant. Doug lived in New York City for many years, where he and his wife Joan, an attorney, restored an 1892 brownstone. Doug, Joan and their son moved to Saratoga Springs in 2003 and have just completed restoration of a house on State Street. Doug has a BA from Dartmouth and a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia. He recently completed the Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation Program at Savannah College of Art and Design.

Gretchen Marcell  

Gretchen Marcell is a career teacher of art and mechanical drawing, currently working in architectural design.  She has served two previous consecutive three-year terms on the SSPF Board and has also served on the Cultural Parks and Saratoga County Historical Museum Boards. Gretchen is a Saratoga resident since 1969, when her first job as Assistant Dean of Students brought her to Skidmore. She is the mother of one.

Leslie Mechem, Secretary 

Leslie was born and raised in central New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. After finishing high school she attended Douglass College, Rutgers University and majored in Classics. Her graduate work at University of Pennsylvania was rewarding and she enjoyed living in Philadelphia where she met her husband and colleague Michael Arnush. While in graduate school, as well as afterwards, Leslie excavated in Greece and did field work in Turkey, Israel, and Italy. In 1989, Michael and Leslie arrived in Saratoga; She has been teaching courses on Greek and Roman art and archaeology in the art history program and courses in ancient Greek, classical mythology, and classical civilization in the Classics Department at Skidmore since 1990. Leslie has led alumni and student study tours to Greece and taught a course on Roman Britain for Skidmore affiliated program in Bath, England. Her administrative experience includes chairing the Classics department at Skidmore for 7 and 1/2 years and serving on the Skidmore Employees Federal Credit Union for three years during which time she served as Vice-President and President, each for one year.

Leslie and Michael live in a John Witt house which was finished in November of 2000. She loves living in Saratoga, especially in the summer when ballet, orchestra, and chamber music are available. In addition, Leslie enjoys gardening, cooking, and travel.

Jim Sasko

Jim is the Owner/President of Teakwood Builders, a $2million/annual remodeling, historic renovation company that specializes in upgrading, maintaining and restoring historic homes. Teakwood Builders is a member of NAHB, Capitol Region Buildings and Remodelers Association, Local Remodeler’s Council, Remodel 20 Group, the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, and the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. Teakwood Builders employs 15 full-time staff. Jim’s prior employment included: Star Construction (Houston-based Restaurant Contracting Company), The Michaels Group, and Barn Raisers. Jim has a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from Utica College of Syracuse University, and an Associates Degree in Construction Technology from Hudson Valley Community College. He was born and raised in Clifton Park, New York.

Steve Springer

Steve Springer lives in Ballston Spa with his wife Cheryl and their two children, Lindsey 21, and Stephanie 19. Steve has lived in this area most of his life. Originally from Queensbury, they lived in the town of Saratoga for 18 years before moving to Ballston Spa in 1995. In addition to a number of Professional organizations, Steve is also a member of the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, SEDC, Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Auto Museum, and the Presbyterian Church in Saratoga Springs. His interests include car collecting and restoration, gardening, architecture and travel.

Dennis Wilson

Dennis Wilson is President of Saracom Ltd. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Dennis first moved to Saratoga Springs in 1970 and became involved in the Plan of Action, predecessor of the Preservation Foundation. He is a returning board member having served as chairman of the Advocacy Committee. Dennis is active in the Saratoga Rotary and serves as a director. He is an industrial marketer and lives with his wife Janis, in an 1850’s farm house in the Saratoga Lake area.

Joanna Zangrando

Joanna is a professor of American Studies at Skidmore College. She moved to Saratoga Springs in 1976 after completing her Ph.D. in American Civilization. Joanna’s areas of teaching and research interests include U.S. Social and Cultural History; Women’s History; Ethnic and Immigrant Experience; Civil Rights; American Material Culture; Museum Studies; Methods and Approaches, and American Studies. During her tenure at Skidmore, Joanna has also held the position of Visiting Professor and Director of the Study Abroad Program in London during the Spring 1983, Spring 1990, Spring 1995, and Fall 2003.
