There are a limited number of spaces for student nurses in order to maintain our ratio.
Camp Safe Haven offers:
FLEXIBLE Scheduling, On site lodging for nurses staying over night, all meals, and FUN activities with the kids.
We
hope you will join us. Nurses are the cornerstone of a successful and
safe camp experience
and many hands make the work more fun and relaxed
for all.
Primary responsibilities of nurses at camp.
Unlike
most camp which may have one nurse on duty for the entire camp program,
Safe Haven believes that more hands make lighter work for everyone.
This is why we invite so many nurses to join us for the camp week. We
have what we believe is the highest ratio of nurses to campers in the
field. This high ratio not only allows for greater sensitivity of care,
but also allows for nurses to have quality time with campers both
within the setting of the nurses station, and in activities they
participate in with the kids. We believe that campers should have the
pleasure of spending time with our nurses in a setting that allows
nurses to relax into the experience.
Primary responsibilities for our nurses include:
- Dispensing prescribed medications according to Doctor's orders.
- Basic care (minor injuries, scratches etc)
- General oversite including when necessary, blood pressure, temp, general health.

GENERAL DETAILS ABOUT OUR CAMPS.
The Safe Haven Project holds two camps annually in the US .
In April, Safe Haven presents "The Vineyard Project" Camp on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard, MA.
CAMP DATES - APRIL 2009
Campers arrive on the afternoon of the 19th and depart on the morning of the 26th
The Island of Martha's Vineyard is located 7 miles
off the coast of Mass (Woods Hole on Cape Cod) A 45 minute ferry ride
brings you to the beautiful island. Reservations for the boat can be
made by clicking here.
The April camp is held at the MV Youth Hostel, one
of the oldest and well known in the nation. Within the facility there
are two separate bunk rooms for campers and staff, and private staff
accomodations as well as a locked nursing facility. The grounds are
perfect for safe outdoor activity and allow for easy access to many
island attractions that are part of the camp experience.
April camp is truly a community effort with dozens
of local artisans, professionals and facilities donating time, talent
and space to the campers. For many campers, it is the first time they
have felt welcomed into such a loving community and the impact of this
is easily seen on their faces.
Camp nurses are an integral part of the overall
camp experience. They are encouraged to participate in all activities
and allow the campers to know them as individuals. The nursing
volunteer experience is a coveted one with many nurses returning year
after year, giving up vacation time to enjoy this experience.
Nurses are housed in donated houses on the island.
This allows for time away from camp, a chance to enjoy the island, take
a breath, and relax. Transportation to houses is gladly provided when
shifts change.
