Riverdale Neighborhood House

Week of the Young Child!

Throughout Week of the Young Child, RNH focused on the many accomplishments of our Early Childhood Program participants: writing the alphabet, cutting with scissors, creating amazing art, appreciating the wonder of the written word, working as a team, and sharing with their friends.

Our spring gallery showcases each class's special projects and activities.

In Anna's class, the children studied famous artists, including Piet Mondrian, Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, and Claude Monet.  Then they experimented with these artists' unique styles to create their very own masterpieces.

In Criselda's class, the children read many classic fairytales, and then sculpted their favorite characters out of clay.

Annie's class learned all about different kinds of birds.  They even went outside and studied real birds with binoculars!  Afterward, they used a variety of objects--including cardboard, paint, glitter, and seeds--to make two- and three-dimensional images of their feathered friends.

Jen's class read books by the prolific author and illustrator Leo Lionni.  Inspired by Lionni's Caldecott-winning depictions of the sea, the students crafted their own seascape filled with whales, squids, dolphins, jellyfish, and other colorful creatures.
