The Teen Program Celebrates Black History Month

The Youth Internship program celebrated Black History Month with a bomba performance. The group BombaYo entertained and educated RNH teens - and staff! - about the rich Afro Puerto Rican history of bomba. Created on Puerto Rico's colonial sugar plantations by African slaves and their descendants, bomba is the most purely African music genre of Puerto Rico and one of the oldest, dating back to the 1680s. Through music, dance and singing, the teens captured the true spirit of bomba.
