  • Congratulations to our Universal Pre-Kindergarten graduates!  And thank you to RNH's terrific UPK teachers for yet another successful year.  We all had a great time at the 2009 Moving Up Ceremony.
  • RNH is seeking volunteers to register people at our blood drive, organized by the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club.  Please call 718-549-8100 x114 if you would like to be involved.  Blood donors do not have to pre-register--just stop by RNH at 5521 Mosholu Avenue on Thursday, July 23rd from 4:00-8:00.  Give blood, give life!
  • RNH recognized the outstanding community service of Alison Pavia at our annual Spring Leadership Event.  Special thanks to Susan and Jonathan Bram for hosting this celebration in their beautiful home.
  • Congratulations to RNH's volunteer tutors for receiving a Community Service Award from Community Board 8!  Read about it in The Riverdale Press
  • RNH recently welcomed "fun food educator" Elizabeth Johnson to our Teen Center.  Ms. Johnson spoke about healthful eating habits, and the group even prepared a delicious, nutritious meal together.  Click here to watch a video of the event.
  • The RNH Teen Center is collecting donations for Eco Africa, a program that supports craftmakers in Zimbabwe.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact us at 718-549-8100 x117.
  • Throughout the month of May, RNH is holding FREE Bomba y Plena workshops to embrace the indigenous music and dance of the Afro-Puerto Rican culture.
  • The RNH Teen Center held a Poetry Slam in observance of National Poetry Month.
  • Students from Riverdale Country School volunteered at RNH.  Thanks to their help, we're ready for our pool season!
  • RNH's Early Childhood Program celebrated Week of the Young Child with a special art gallery.
  • Come to RNH's first outdoor flea market on Saturday, May 16th from 11:00-4:00 at 5521 Mosholu Avenue.  Tables, run by local Riverdale residents, will contain new, handmade, and gently used items--including crafts, music, books, and housewares.  The rain date is Sunday, May 17th.
  • Are you a high school student in need of community service credit?  You can help RNH prepare for the summer season by volunteering after school in early May.  Interested teens should call 718-549-8100 x129.
  • Riverdale Neighborhood House welcomed a teaching artist from the nonprofit Arts to Grow last fall.  We are mentioned in the "Round Up of Culminating Events" section of the Arts to Grow newsletter.

  • Councilmember Oliver Koppell dropped by our Drop-In Program, where we thanked him for helping us to renew our childcare license. 
  • Our Early Childhood Program welcomed President Obama with some patriotic activities.

  • RNH's 2008 Annual Benefit gala was a great success!
  • The children in our After School Program welcomed autumn with an apple-picking field trip.
  • Our Teen Center is getting a new look!  And our local elected officials--Senator Klein, Assemblyman Dinowitz, and Councilmember Koppell--are supporting our efforts to construct a brighter, more sustainable place for our youth to feel at home.  Click here for photos of Senator Klein's interview about the project, which was also featured on the Bronx 12 news network.
  • The RNH classrooms had some special visitors from China!
  • Every Thursday between 3:00-7:00, you can get organic, locally-grown produce at the Riverdale Youthmarket.  Come to the Dodge building at the corner of Mosholu Avenue and West 256th Street to pick up your fresh fruits and vegetables.  And don't forget to tell your friends!
  •   The weather is getting warmer, and it isn't too late to join the RNH Pool!  Stay local and save gas as you relax, swim, and make new friends this summer.  You can download the registration form directly from the Pool 2008 page.
  •   Attention All Teens!  Do you want to earn money, gain work experience, and have access to the resources you'll need to get ahead in college and a career?  RNH is now accepting applications for our Youth Internship Program.  Interested?  Call 718-549-8100 x114--or just click here!
  • RNH gratefully recognizes Con Edison and the New York Life Foundation for their generous support of our Youth Internship and Tutoring Programs!  Many thanks!

  • Our Teen Interns and After School Program participants had fun in the sun at RNH's June carnival!

  • RNH held a memorial tree ceremony to honor Ethan "Denny" Dennison, former Board President and long-time community volunteer.  Family and friends gathered around Denny's blue spruce tree, while young RNH students sang "You are My Sunshine."
  • RNH celebrated the outstanding community service of Joshua Goldstein and Simone Paasche at our annual Spring Leadership Event.  Many thanks to Cathy and Stephen Weinroth for hosting this reception at their beautiful Riverdale home.
  • The New York City Audubon newsletter featured an article on RNH's After School Conservation Club.  Click here to read about our fourth-graders' butterfly garden!
  • RNH was a sponsor of the Green It Up! panel forum on sustainable living in Riverdale.
  • The Teen Program celebrated Black History Month with a performance by an Afro-Caribbean percussion troupe; the event was featured in The Riverdale Press.
  • Read the Riverdale Press article about RNH's Telephone Reassurance Program for homebound seniors.
  •   The After School Program went back to school with a Storytelling Arts Project and a Theater Arts Project. The children also welcomed fall with an apple-picking trip. Check out all the great pictures!
