 Volunteer Opportunities

 

Outreach Center Volunteer

Room At The Inn is continually receiving mother and baby items which need to be washed and sorted and then either stored or carefully placed in our Mother-Baby Store which is located in our house (Fay’s Family Boutique).  Also, volunteers are needed to cover 3-hour shifts (from 9 am-12 noon and 1 pm-4 pm, Monday-Friday) at the boutique, during which time they will supervise and assist clients as they pick up clothes, diapers, and other necessities for themselves and their families.

“Handyman”

Occasionally assistance is needed with house and office building repairs and improvement projects.

 

 

Golf Committee Member

Every May, Room At The Inn hosts a fundraising golf tournament.  To be on the Golf Committee, members commit to attending monthly meetings (five meetings are usually held from December-April), helping out with recruiting golfers, and soliciting sponsorships and raffle prizes from area businesses.  Members also assist with various other tasks throughout the preceding months, as well as on the day of the tournament.

Banquet Committee Member/a.k.a. Parish/Church Coordinator

Every Fall, Room At The Inn hosts a fundraising banquet at the Charlotte Convention Center, complete with meal and well-known guest speaker.  Those on the Banquet Committee assist by attending two meetings (usually held in April and August) and by inviting their neighbors, co-workers, family members, friends, and church contacts to host tables.  Committee members are the main contacts for their table hosts, in which they make sure that their table hosts have all of the necessary information and paperwork, etc.  Assistance is also needed with reservations before the banquet and on the day of the banquet.  Lastly, committee members help out with set-up and clean-up at the banquet.

College Outreach Volunteer

Room At The Inn has launched a new College Outreach Program, Inn Good Company. 

This program will offer professional counseling and support services to pregnant students at local college/university campuses.  Volunteers would assist Room At The Inn with the development and implementation of a campus marketing strategy and with supporting on-campus student volunteers.

“Life Skills” Instructor

Volunteers are needed to teach weekly or monthly “Life Skills” classes to mothers in our Residential Program in the following areas: Budgeting, Cooking, Resume Writing, Chastity, Being Successful in the Work Place, Successful Parenting, Looking for a Good Husband, and Being Successful in the “Real World.”

Holiday Treats/Angel Trees

The mothers enrolled in our programs would certainly be grateful to receive thoughtful, inexpensive treats and gifts for themselves and their children on special holidays throughout the year.  Holidays that would be appropriate include: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas.

Donation Drive

A Donation Drive is a wonderful way to support Room At The Inn!  This is a perfect group project for families, churches, schools, Girl Scout Troops, etc.  Sometimes groups prefer to stick to collecting one item (such as collecting just diapers or just wipes or just baby clothes).  However, other groups might prefer to have a list available for their participants (common items that are needed include: baby shampoo, baby lotion, baby body wash, baby washcloths, baby bibs, diapers, paper towels, Dreft Laundry Detergent, Trash Bags, bar soap, and adult shampoo, conditioner, and lotion).  Donation drives can be held in your church or school.  Groups have also obtained permission to stand outside a food store or Walmart/Target, etc. and to hand out flyers listing the items of which Room At The Inn is currently in need, along with a brief description of our services/mission, our contact information, and our website address. 

 

Room At The Inn has two, new additions: Fay’s Family Boutique and a food pantry!  In addition to the items mentioned above, to keep the boutique and pantry stocked, we welcome all donations of baby accessories (bottles, rattles, hats, socks, shoes, etc.), baby blankets, infant clothing, children’s clothing, toys, cribs, playpens, high chairs, bassinets, baby carriers, strollers, maternity and non-maternity clothes, single beds, dressers, small appliances, dishware, and canned and dried food.

Grounds Beautification

If you love to be outside, then this is the job for you!  Groups and individuals can greatly assist us by making our house, office, and property look fresh, clean, and inviting!  We need help with picking up trash, weeding, planting flowers, spreading pine straw, sweeping, shaping bushes, etc.
