Client Member Requirements

Members Qualify
  • as having 175% of poverty level income 
  • citizens of San Benito County
Members Pay an 
Annual Fee
  • Up to $40 per family households - based on a sliding scale
  • $15 for senior households
  • Larger families contribute "more hours" to balance the fee with size of family
Members 
Contribute
Hours Monthly
  • 1-3 members in a family contribute two hours
  • 4-6 members in a family contribute four hours
  • 7+ members in a family contribute six hours
Jobs performed
  • Warehouse maintenance
  • Light office work
  • Repackaging bulk food
  • Loading/unloading trucks
  • Gleaning fields
  • Bagging food for distribution
  • Delivery to shut-ins
Members Must
  • Attend at least one of the quarterly Membership meetings per year
  • Vote annually for representatives
    (one for each 100 members) as part of
    the Community Pantry Advisory board

NEW PROGRAMS
FOOD STAMP PROGRAM:  Our new Outreach coordinator Maria Fehl  is working with San Benito County staff members to assist our clients with the application process for Food Stamps.
 
NUTRITION PROGRAM:  Outreach Coordinator Maria Fehl has established a nutrition training program for our clients and others in San Benito county.  So far classes have been done at the Community Pantry office and at Emmaus House.  These classes are giving in English and Spanish.
 
BACKPACK PROGRAM:  Students in local schools are being given backpacks.  These backpacks will be refilled weekly with nutritious foods.  This program will continue throughout the summer.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Decision making Members have representation in the policy and decision making process:
  • A Member Liaison is one of the Board of Director positions. 
  • That Director works closely with the representatives and members
  • Overseeing the Member Communication.

  • Christmas Basket Program involves: Salvation Army, Community Pantry and seven local churches
  • Food is delivered to those who are unable to leave their homes
  • Those who work when extra food is available share the extra food, or when gleaning fields, working in the warehouse or bagging food for distribution.
