Notes about the Friday Evening Services
Friday evening services on most weeks will be at a fixed early time, divided into two parts, running from 6-7pm. Our services are crafted for all ages and kids are especially welcome. The Early Friday Evening services begin at 6pm with a special Kabbalat Pnai Shabbat (Welcoming the Faces of Sabbath). The Temple will offer pre-service Oneg (refreshment) while we sing Lecha Dodi and other beloved Jewish songs in a heartfelt and joyous Shirah session led by Rabbi Gartenberg and Cantor Kripper. Bring an instrument or drums and join in the singing. Learn new songs and sing old favorites in the joyful spirit of Shabbat.
Kabbalat Pnai Shabbat is followed with the Aravit Shel Shabbat Friday evening service starting with Barchu at 6:30 which will end before 7:00pm. There will be a brief Dvar Torah by Rabbi Gartenberg and the traditional recitation of the Mourner's Kaddish at the conclusion of services for anyone observing a Yahrzeit.
The regular early format is designed to be energetic, participatory, and joyful. We encourage members to celebrate Shabbat at home after services at home. We want to encourage members to host or attend our expanding Shabbat at home events after these services organized through the Shalom Aleichem program.
