One Stop Services and Programs: Care Assistance | Care Management | One Stop Support

AARP Volunteer Bill-Paying Assistance Program

This program more broadly serves the money management needs of our Care Management, connecting screened and trained volunteers with our low-income and low-asset senior clients. Volunteers provide assistance in developing a budget, paying bills, reviewing correspondence, sorting mail, organizing financial paperwork, reviewing monthly bank statements, and balancing checkbooks. These services help to ensure that our Care Management clients stay current with all of their bills, and can also prevent the occurrence of stressful situations including eviction, having utilities turned off, or having to face bankruptcy. In all cases, One Stop’s Care Manager remains the primary contact, supported by the volunteer, who in addition to providing services also serves as an extra set of “eyes and ears” that can identify any indications of behavior change or other warning signs that the client may be in need of additional care. This program is available to all of One Stop’s clients and has been opened to other community agencies such as Hartley House, Self Help, JASA, and SPOP for referrals.
