1744 Payne Avenue
Project Milestones Oct 2006 - April 2007
|
|
In December 2004, the MHS Board of Trustees authorized the purchase and renovation of a three-story, 36,000-square-foot office building at 1744 Payne Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. This purchase launched the Board’s $6 million strategic initiative to create the physical infrastructure to sustain the operations of MHS, and support its continued growth and development. When construction and renovations are completed in the autumn of 2006, the structure will become the agency headquarters, and house programs that are currently based at three sites.

Progress Toward Project Completion
Structural steel was delivered in October 2006, for use in the completion of the second and third floors to match the dimensions of the first floor. The area created on the second floor houses offices of the Mobile Crisis Team. The corresponding area on the third floor is unfinished, and will be for future programs.

Installation of the structural steel is complete, in this photograph of 20 November 2006. Once all of the composite wall panels have been mounted on the steel frames, work will begin on the brick exterior of the newly-constructed wing of the building.

This photograph of 2 May 2007 shows the completed structure shortly after MHS staff members moved in on 18-19 April, and before the brick of the building's west wing had been tinted. Contractors had been unable to locate brick of the same color as the original structure.

|
A worker "tints" the brick on the west wall on 20 June 2007. Actually, he said he uses a latex paint. A photograph of a section of the building having the original brick is used to create a brick-by-brick, "paint-by-number" tinting guide.

This second-floor area will be devoted to the MHS Community Support program that helps homeless adults with severe mental illnesses to achieve housing, health, recovery, and community participation. To review what clients achieve with the help of these services, into the same area as staff members conducting community support services, enhancing service coordination and efficiency.

Telephone and data cable assemblies in the third-floor Information Technology Equipment Room, in November 2006. All direct-service workers will have access to a computer terminal. Most staff members who provide clinical and supportive services in homeless assistance programs record their service notes by a computer application.
The Trustees, and Steven M. Friedman, Ph.D., Executive Director, are committed to replacing paper-based service documentation with an electronic health record by the end of 2008.
