COMPANION/ADVOCATES for Breast Cancer-Related Medical Visits: Companion/Advocates are Breast Cancer Survivors trained to accompany newly diagnosed patients or those facing a possible diagnosis to their medical appointments. A trained Companion Advocate is there for support, to ensure that important questions get asked and are answered, as a resource to verify exactly what was discussed at the visit, and to share their experience as Survivors. Topics covered are: Making Informed Decisions About Complementary/ Alternative Approaches; What to Eat & Why- An in-depth discussion food as medicine; Imagery & Healing; Risk Reduction Strategies. Looking at the evidence pointing to the benefits of "anti cancer" diets, exercise, managing stress, and removing harmful chemicals from the environment. We are often left on our own to put together a healthier way of living after a cancer diagnosis. Very often there is increased anxiety after conventional treatments are completed and we are at a loss at what to do to keep ourselves healthy.
