Complementary, Alternative & Integrative Approaches to Managing Breast Cancer. Michael Schachter, MD is founder and Director of The Schachter Center for Complementary Medicine, Suffern, NY. Dr. Schachter has been a pioneer in many aspects of Complementary, Integrative and Alternative medicine since for more than three decades. In addition to being the keynote speaker, Dr. Schachter will conduct a workshop on the differences between Complementary, Alternative & Integrative Approaches and how to incorporate and use these different approaches in managing Breast Cancer.
Syndrome X: Overcoming a Common Risk Factor With Diet. Roufia Payman, DT,CDN is Director of Nutritional Counseling at Northern Dutchess Hospital and a licensed nutritionist and dietitian. She will discuss how to combat known disease risk factors like Syndrome X (Insulin Resistance or Metabolic Syndrome) through the use of diet and certain “superfoods, helping to promote optimal health and well being. The workshop will show you how to incorporate healthy food choices on a daily basis.
Nutrition & Cancer. Roufia Payman, DT,CDN. About one third of all cancers are thought to stem from lifestyle choices, including diet. Nutrition is often overlooked as a component of cancer treatment and prevention, aiding recovery and improving the chances of remission. Roufia Payman will show you how to fight cancer with every bite you eat and how to promote recovery with good nutritional choices.
Detoxification & Health: Tools For Reducing The Effects of Environmental Toxins. Richard Horowitz,MD Board Certified, Internal Medicine, President-elect of The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS), Former Assistant Director of Medicine, Vassar Brothers Hospital.Dr. Horowitz is Director of the Hudson Valley Healing Arts Center, Hyde Park, NY, an integrative medical center where complementary modalities are blended with western medicine for a total approach to health and wellness. The workshop will explore the different chemicals that are found in the environment and subsequently in our bodies, the biochemistry of how they affect our health and 3 general principles of detoxification, chelation and supplementation as tools to reduce the effects of these toxins on a cellular level.
Transforming Cancer Treatment With Imagery. Dr. Carol Robin, DC, CCN is a Chiropractor, clinical nutritionist and energy healer in private practice in Ulster County NY. She works with women with breast cancer and other serious illnesses using imagery and energy work during and after treatment. This experiential workshop will introduce you to the use of imagery/visualization and energy work to help improve your experience of surgery, chemo & radiation. By creating new images and intentions, you can minimize discomfort, accelerate healing, and make your treatment an opportunity for healing, release and empowerment.
Meditation & the Immune System. Dr. Carol Robin will introduce you to the Four Steps To Centertm meditation technique developed by Dr. Robin, and teach you how to use meditation to strengthen and balance your immune system and improve your health and well-being.
Balancing & Enhancing The Immune System. Dr. James Belanger, ND, MT (Medical Technology) is a licensed Naturopathic doctor and graduate of Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. He has extensive training in both western medicine, nutritional and herbal medicine and has years of experience treating hundreds of breast cancer patients. He is the co director of the Lexington Natural Health Center in Lexington, MA and a prominent board member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. His workshop will look at ways of using Naturopathic Medicines to monitor, enhance & balance the immune system.
Environmental Risks and Breast Cancer. Janet Gray, PhD is a Professor of Psychology and Program in Science, Technology & Society and Director of the ERBC-CD Project at Vassar College. She will use an interactive, multimedia CD on Breast Cancer and the Environment created by Vassar students and technical professionals, and explore evidence that has suggested that, over time, the combined exposures to a number of factors may account for a considerable portion of the current high rate of breast cancer. There is a particular concern about exposures to environmental contaminants at critical periods of breast development, including early childhood and adolescence.
