Thomas E. McGinty
August 20, 1929 ~ February 13, 2007
After
18 years at the helm of The
Alice and Patrick McGinty Foundation,
Thomas
E. McGinty passed away February
13, 2007
During
his tenure president, Mr. McGinty oversaw significant changes to the
Foundation
he created in 1989 including a name change to encourage family
participation,
the revision and adoption of its current mission, major growth
in assets and grant
making and the evolution of its programming focus.
It
was Benjamin Mays who said it best. “The
tragedy of life does not lie in
not reaching your goals. It lies in having no goal to reach. It is not a calamity
to die with dreams
unfulfilled, but is a calamity not to dream.”
Mr.
McGinty once said at a family board meeting, “Never loose sight of what
a privilege it
is to make grants, and come to believe instead that it is a privilege
to
receive grants.”
Michael J. McGinty
We will miss seeing
his smile
the
twinkle in his eyes.
We will miss hearing
his laughter
his jokes
his stories
his words of
wisdom...consolation…
forgiveness...love…understanding.
We will miss feeling
a kiss from him
a hug from him
the touch of his
hands
his love.
We will miss
spending time
with him
sharing life
with him.
All these things and more we will miss,
but the memory
of all these things and more
we will hold in
our hearts
as we celebrate his life
as we Thank God for sharing him with us
as we pray
that eternal rest is granted him.
