Rebekah helped launch the MATHS initiative rooted in her teaching experiences with the Teach Baltimore and Student Health Outreach Central (SHOC) programs of Johns Hopkins University. She has held senior level management positions at two private schools in Columbia, Maryland where she grew enrollment from 25 students to over 350, and operated budgets greater than $3 million. Rebekah received her BA and MS degrees from The Johns Hopkins University where she conducted research in reproductive biology and authored several scientific articles. In August 2006, Rebekah was selected as Principal of MATHS by the Baltimore City Public School System.
Bevin A. Philip, PhD
Executive Director
Bevin worked for a number of years doing research on diseases such as cancer, musculoskeletal disorders and diabetes. Prior to co-founding MATHS, Bevin was head of the Technology Division at a biotechnology company in Boston, where he managed a multimillion dollar product portfolio. He has authored several scientific articles, holds a patent, and has received several awards including from the Ford Foundation, Illinois Academy of Science and Wyeth Research. He has taught math and science at different levels including at an inner-city high school and an adult education center, and has helped develop health workshops for public schools in India. Bevin received his BA in Chemistry and Sociology from Knox College and his PhD in Biochemistry from The Johns Hopkins University, where he was also trained in Public Health. Bevin currently serves as Executive Director of the Eudaimonia Foundation and manages operations for MATHS.
