Oil study by Rory White. Stephanie. 20" x 24". 2003

Below : Stephanie Amidst Angels. graphite on convex ceramic surface.

Here I was exploring setting Stephanie amidst figures and treatment
inspired by a Diego Rivera mural (his early, and only religious work, to my knowledge,
and strongly influenced by Giotto),
angel on right, is Anthony Hamilton, like Stephanie, a member of Lamp Village
for persons living with mental diagnoses in Skid Row, Los Angeles.

Stephanie, who lives with Schizophrenia, is an excellent vocalist and a
charter artist-member of the Lamp Art Project.

Anthony Hamilton, again, pictured above right, started with Lamp as a client,
and now is a critical staff member.
He happens to himself be an excellent painter,
whose works hang at the Lamp Art Project, in Skid Row.

Although many of you will already know this, Lamp Art Project is the studio program,
that I designed and implemented in Skid Row for artists challenged with
homelessness and other mental diagnoses.

I created this under the auspices, funding and encouragement of the
cutting-edge, humanitarian, non-profit agency, Lamp Community (www.lampcommunity.org).
and the personal authorization of its insightful founding director, Mollie Lowery.
