| James. Photo taken February 26, 2003. James, a long time client, or member, of Lamp, also works as volunteer phone staff at the Lamp Day Center on San Julian. A high percentage of the Lamp Art Project members have begun their involvement when they were staying at the Day Center's Emergency Shelter facilities. Many of these same members, after stabilizing their lives through both their involvement in the Art Project and the tremendous supportive services of Lamp Community, then find more long term independent housing, for example in the Lamp Lodge Apartments, just around the corner, on Stanford Street, from the Art Project. James visits the Art Project regularly and has no problem giving interested new members directions, or an escort, from the Day Center, across Skid Row, to the Lamp Art Project.
