Walkathon in support of The United Nations’ International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking New York, NY – Recalling its resolution 40/122 of December 13th 1985, by which it decided to convene in 1987, in response to the initiative of the Secretary-General, an International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the ministerial level, at Vienna, with the mandate to generate universal action, and as an expression of the political will of nations to combat the drug menace and as a means of tackling the serious and complex international drug problem in all its forms. The United Nations decided to observe June 26 of each year as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In support of the United Nations’ historic international commitment, The Corona Self-Help Center, Inc, will be holding its Second Annual Walkathon to help raise awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The event will be held on June 14, 2009 at Flushing Meadow Park in Corona Queens. The Walkathon will begin at 10:00am. Participants are asked to arrive early and meet at the Lake Area of Flushing Meadow Park. The walk will cumulate at the picnic area where participants and their supporters will be treated to a BBQ and a day fun and games for the entire family. It's Easy Being Green. Especially Now! Walkathon registration information: You can pay your registration online by clicking on the Donate Now button and in the Designation (Optional) field enter Walkathon and the name of the participants. Children under 6 years old can attend for free, children from the ages of 6 to 12 pay half price. If you cannot attend please consider making a much needed donation. All proceeds from the Walkathon will go to help keep Jóvenes 24 Hrs. AD, Inc., The Corona Self-Help Center, Inc. and La Misión open and continue to provide these much needed services to the community.
