History
The Florida State Foster Adoptive Parent Association was formed in 1986 to bring together parents in an effort to find support and resolutions to the problems that foster parents were struggling with.

As of June 30, 2007 the number of children in foster homes were
8,072.  There are 2387 in residential group care and 1127 in shelter homes and facilities. There are thirty (30) children inn subsidized independent living with 14,153 in relative care/non-relatives. These figures can be found on the "DCF Quick Facts"website.

Working  together with legislators,
 1. the asssociation supports  exemption of certain personal information contained in our foster care licensing files regarding foster parents, their families and homes.
2.the legislative bill for the post secondary student fees/exemption which exempts children adopted from the department from certain post secondary student fees.
We worked with the State Teen Youth Advisory Board in support of a sibling contact bill for continuing sibling contact, providing for an adopted minor's right to continued communication or contact with siblings.

Support
Foster Allegation Support Team (F.A.S.T.) is there to support foster and adoptive parents through the pain and fear of the allegation, clarifies the process, provides clearer communication, helps the children avoid the trauma and helps retain foster homes.
