“Fill the Ford Food Drive”

Holiday Food Collection For Our Neighbors

7:30am-6:00pm on
 December 6 & 7, 2007

Hampton, VA- On Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7 the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and Wynne Ford are partnering to hold the first ever “Fill the Ford” Food Drive. Wynne Ford, who is a continual supporter of the Foodbank and their efforts to offer food assistance on the Peninsula, is located at 1020 West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.   http://www.wynneford.com/ou/hampton-ford/console.do?page=r_specials

Fill the Ford will be the city’s single largest food drive in the month of December and will be held from 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM on both days.

This food drive is a community based endeavor assisting the Foodbank in their efforts to distribute food effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition and self-reliance through education. All donated items will remain within the local community to assist the over 78,000 people who, in any given week, are at risk of food insecurity in our area. Each week, the Foodbank distributes 176,494 pounds of food throughout its nine-jurisdiction service area on the Virginia Peninsula. This service area encompasses the cities of Hampton, Newport, Poquoson and Williamsburg and the counties of Gloucester, James City, Mathews, Surry and York.

Patrons are encouraged to support Fill the Ford with non-perishable food items. The Foodbank’s most needed items include canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese and 100% fruit juice. Monetary contributions will also be accepted, with every dollar donated helping to provide four meals to someone in need within our community.
