Synchronized Skating is the fastest growing discipline in United States figure skating. It is a team sport consisting of 12-20 skaters on the ice at one time moving as one flowing unit. Synchronized skating focuses each skater on proper body position and strong basic skating skills. It is a great way to experience skating while learning to work as a team.
This synchronized skating part of class will follow the US Figure Skating Synchronized Basic Skills program; each skater will learn the fundamentals of how to skate with a group and how to make the five basic synchro formations (line, block, circle, wheel and intersection).
Moves in the Field (MIF) is a name given to elements of figure skating that emphasize basic skating skills and edge control (including stroking, crossovers, 3-turns, and spirals). It also refers to a set of skill tests consisting of progressively difficult edge and step patterns. U.S. figure skating requires each skater to pass a MIF test and Compulsory program in order to qualify for the various levels of competition. The MIF portion of class will teach, review and develop the MIF patterns.
