Hockey Is For Everyone Clinic and White House Visit Essay
By Ricardo Kornegay, age 9

**All of the Kids On Ice skaters who participated in the hockey clinic and White House visit on September 10th were required to write an essay about their experience. Ricardo has been skating in the KOI Hockey Club for almost two years.

On Thursday, September 10th, I got to meet some players from the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was fun. I got to see and touch the Stanley cup; it was half the size of me! Skating with the Pittsburgh Penguins was a great opportunity because their tips will help improve my skating. I need to work on my side stops and Guerin gave me some good advice on how not to be scared and that falling will happen. It was good to know they worry about those things too. I was lucky to get the chance to see the ’09 champions. All my friends were mad because they wanted to come too. Skating with Crosby, Guerin and the other guys made me set higher ice hockey goals for myself. I will do my best to listen to my coaches and play harder during practices and scrimmage games.

I went to the White House after the Penguins clinic. The White House is very big. Going inside with my group, we saw a lot of cameras. We went to the “Yellow” room to see President Obama. We sat for a long time and then he came out. We could not see him because the people in front were so tall. It was an honor to be in the same room with the President. No one in my school or my family has been in the same room as him. My goal is to one day be the President and have fun events with children all the time.
