The “Man 2 Man” Conference is a gender specific conference intended to benefit East of the River youth served by ERCPCP’s Community-Based and School-Based programs. This day long event features multiple experiences for these youth including speakers and workshops on issues that are relevant to young men, catered meals that encourage good nutrition and meet their nutritional needs, opportunities to engage in positive interaction with other men of various backgrounds, a keynote speaker to share a powerful and relatable story, an exhibit hall filled with resource providers to share information that will help address their needs, entertainment, and a town hall style meeting that will give them opportunities to ask questions of their elders and express themselves. Additionally, the desire of the planning committee is to pair each young man with a mentor-for-a-day who will set a positive example and engage them in an exciting and worthwhile one day mentoring experience that may open the door to a long-standing mentoring relationship.
Historically, the “Man 2 Man” planning committee has been steered by a Youth Leadership Council (YLC) comprised of both female and male students. These YLC members help to guide the adult planners with regard to the workshop topics they would like to see covered, various elements of the conference they think should be included, ideas on promoting the conference and increasing attendance, and suggestions for beneficial giveaway items, among other things.
The mission, goal and message of Man 2 Man are as follows:

Man 2 Man Mission… To develop positive life skills within young men which will enable them to overcome the many challenges they face on a daily basis.
Man 2 Man Goal… To equip young men with the tools necessary to build a positive self image and embrace independent thinking and teambuilding through an array of workshops and group discussions.

Man 2 Man Message… Within inner-city schools, young men are often subject to elements, which hinder their social and mental growth. These elements of violence, illiteracy, irresponsibility and sexual promiscuity in our community have deteriorated the image of the positive young male. Derived from the call to serve the community, ERCPCP and its partners have created a summit to address the issues facing our youth by way of workshops, a mentor pair-off, and panel discussions, among other things.
