Workforce Investment Act
Daniel Boone Community Action Agency's Workforce Investment Act Program (WIA) provides assistance to Youth, Adults, and Dislocated Workers. The WIA Program is designed to assist the job seeker to acquire skills necessary to become gainfully employed.
WIA Youth Program
The WIA Youth Program provides a broad range of services to youth ages 14 to 21 in Clay and
Jackson
Counties
. All youth must meet the low-income criteria and required barriers as defined by WIA.
Youth may receive services in one or more of the following:
- Comprehensive guidance and counseling
- Tutoring, study skills training, and instruction leading to secondary school completion, including dropout prevention strategies
- Alternative secondary school offerings
- Summer employment
- Paid and unpaid work experience, including internships and job shadowing
- Occupational Skill Training
- Financial Aid Coordination
- Supportive Services
- Leadership Development opportunities
- Adult mentoring
- Follow-up services
WIA Adult Program
The WIA Adult Program provides a broad range of services to the adult public age 18 and older who are unemployed or under-employed.
Description Of Services
Core services set the stage for receiving additional services provided by JobSight partners and/or WIA’s Intensive Services. Core services may include: outreach activities, intake, eligibility determination, assessment of skill levels, assessment of supportive service needs, job search and placement assistance, employment statistics information, performance and cost information for training providers, information and referral services.
Intensive services are services that are provided to adults when it has been determined that they are unable to obtain and/or maintain appropriate employment without services beyond the core services. The intensive services may include:
- A complete assessment
- Group counseling
- Individual counseling and career planning
- Case management for customers seeking training
- Tuition, books, & fees
- Work experience and paid internships
- Literacy and adult education activities
- Supportive services such as meals, transportation, childcare and other approved expenses for training.
Dislocated Worker Program
Dislocated Workers are persons who qualify under one (1) of the following four (4) categories.
- Terminated/Laid Off and Eligible for, or have exhausted Entitlement to Unemployment Insurance Benefits.
- Permanent Closure/Substantial Layoff.
- Was self-employed, but is unemployed as a result of general economic conditions in the community because of a natural disaster (includes farmers, ranchers or fishermen)
- Displaced Homemaker- A displaced homemaker is someone who has been providing unpaid services to family members in the home, and has been dependent on the income of another family member but is no longer supported by that income, and is underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.
A Dislocated Worker may be eligible to receive:
- Assessment of skill levels
- Job search, job placement assistance
- Employment information
- Information for accessing adult education and post secondary educational opportunities
- Work experience, on-the-job training opportunities
- Financial assistance for out of area job search and relocation
- Financial assistance for meals, transportation, childcare, tuition and other approved expenses for classroom training
