ACCOMPLISHMENTS 
 

1985

·         Received start-up funds from The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix

·         Established a parents and family support group

·         Established special education assistance to any religious school that accommodated special needs children

·         Offered sign or oral interpreters in Jewish settings to Jewish impaired children and adults, for Jewish events, High Holiday services, schools, camping and community programs

1989

·         Incorporated as a non-profit and became an affiliated agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix

·         Expanded target client base to include young adults

1991

·         Established a task force to investigate options available for residential services

1992

·         Second family support group was established

·         Sponsored a six-week sibling support group workshop

·         Established Yad B’Yad, a monthly social group for young adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities

1993

·         Expanded staff to include a secretary and added Special Education and Social/Recreational Consultants

·         Relocated in the Jewish Federation Building to a larger office suite

·         Surveyed the community to determine level of interest in establishing a Jewish residential program

1994

·         Expanded staff to include a Special Education Community Consultant to work with the Jewish Day Schools

1995

·         Conducted a publicity campaign in Phoenix and Tucson to determine the level of interest in establishing a Jewish group home

·         Established additional support groups for parents of children with autism

1998

·         Received a grant for the “Shabbat In A Box” program

·         Expanded staff to include Preschool Special Education and Special Projects Consultants

·         Became a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix

1999

·         Published the first disability resource in North America providing a national directory of services, schools, camps, residential and vocational agencies

·         Added a Program Director and Development Director

·         Established Keshet, a monthly social group for Jewish teens with moderate to severe developmental disabilities

·         Established the CJSN website at www.cjsn.org

2000

·         Initiated search for a Jewish residence for up to four adults with special needs

·         Received seed money for a Jewish residence for adults with special needs

·         Established Council Properties, LLC to oversee residential programming

2001

·         Opened Shalom House, the first Jewish residence for three Jewish adults with developmental disabilities

·         Established a permanent meeting place for Yad B’Yad at Shalom House

2002

·         Distributed information about Jewish Genetic Diseases to rabbis and physicians

·         Moved CJSN offices into the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus

·         Celebrated the first B’nai Mitzvah for adults with disabilities

2003

·         Revised and published 2nd edition of North American Disability Resources Directory

·         Hosted the annual North American Consortium of Jewish Special Educators Conference

·         Created J-Challenger Fitness Program for young adults with disabilities

·         Distributed educational materials about Jewish Genetic Diseases to 150 rabbis and physicians in greater Phoenix

·         Expanded Keshet group to include monthly Jewish special education classes

2004

·         Presented a complete “Pretend Wedding” enacted by Yad B’Yad group members

2005

·         Hosted “Greater Phoenix Jewish Genetic Diseases” educational and screening event

·         Created Adult Siblings Support Group

·         Revised and published 3rd edition of North America Disability Resources Directory

·         Created Preschool Teacher Training Program

2006

·         Received the Belle Latchman Community Service Award for Greater Phoenix Jewish Genetic Diseases Project

2007

·         Developed long range goals through a Strategic Plan for the agency
