Simcha House is a supervised group residence for Jewish adults who have severe developmental disabilities. Since the Council began in 1985, parents of adults with special needs have expressed their desire to see their sons and daughters settled in a supervised residence that continues to nurture their Jewish identity. For two decades, the future residents of Simcha House have participated in religious school classes, celebrated their bar and bat mitzvahs, and joined their Jewish friends twice a month for social group activities. Todd, Frankie and Jessie are enjoying their home where Shabbat begins on Friday evening, where a menorah is the center of attention in December; and where springtime holds the promise of a Passover seder.
Todd, Frankie and Jessie afix the mezuzah on their font door with assistance from Rabbi Rony Keller, assistant Rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel.
Council For Jews With Special Needs is proud to provide support for the Jewish content at Simcha House.
The residents of Simcha House, Shalom House and Keshet House enjoy celebrating holidays together.
