FAMILY ACTIVITIES

The Council sponsors a variety of family events, including carnivals, children's concerts, magic shows, picnics in the park, Shabbat dinners, holiday parties, bowling events or other events each year. Families that include a child or adult who has a disabling condition are encouraged to come together on a purely social basis to meet new people and explore common interests. The siblings of children with special needs benefit greatly from exposure to other families similar to theirs. Many of these family events are hosted by groups in the Jewish community: for example, fraternity members become "bowling buddies," Young Leadership Department of Jewish Federation shares an art project, or a synagogue youth group hosts a Passover dinner. This opportunity for "community interaction" benefits everyone.

The Council For Jews With Special Needs is a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix: www.jewishphoenix.org
