ADVOCACY
For adults who have a disability and for parents of children who have special needs, navigating the social service system; educational, medical and therapy services; recreational programs and other disability related areas can be overwhelming. The Council staff assists in directing adults and parents to appropriate resources. Within the Jewish community, the Council actively advocates for a child or adult who has special needs to be welcomed into synagogues, religious schools, camps, organizations, etc. The Council staff provides guidance and support for adaptations and modifications to address various barriers to inclusion. Through the Council's Speakers Bureau, presentations are available to dispel the myths of disabilities and to nurture inclusion, respect and friendship.
The Council For Jews With Special Needs is a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix: www.jewishphoenix.org |
