The Student Senate and School Store are both up and running.  Sally Nealis and Ellen Caskey are the Elementary Student Senate advisors.  In February, prospective senators in grades 3-6 submitted written reports to Mrs. Nealis and Ms. Caskey detailing why they thought they would be good senators.  They then gave brief speeches to their classmates.  An election followed, and three students from each grade level were elected.  The senate met for the first time in the middle of March.

It was eventually determined that the store would be called "The School Store" and it would be open during the noon lunch/recess time two days a week and would be only open to 3-6 graders.  The store was only open for the last 3 weeks of school, but the senate profited over $500.00 in that short time.  The School Store, which has been a dream of many on the elementary staff for years, is clearly up and running, and ready to take off again in August.  Eventually the Student Senate will be able to donate the profits from the store to the elementary school in any way the senators deem appropriate.  It will be wonderful for the senators and their advisors to have the opportunity to experience the pleasure of giving back to the school community and complete the circle of giving.
