Violence Prevention Program
CATS provides violence prevention programs in area schools and at its branch offices throughout Erie County.
These innovative programs teach children empathy, impulse control and problem-solving skills as alternatives to violence. Children are provided with before and after-school homework help or help with academic enrichment activities, arts, athletics, therapeutic or social skills. Students also partipate in interactive anti-violence drama productions.
A primary focus of these programs is to enhance the academic achievement of students and to increase their ability to make pro-social choices in their behavior at home, in school and in the community.
Equally important is the emphasis on increasing the involvement of the family in the child's academic, community and life development. Specific supports are provided for families such as literacy, family support, family recreation and counseling. |
