Sacramento Street Preschool seeks Preschool Teacher
Sacramento Street Preschool is looking for a highly motivated, passionate and experienced educator to work in a collaborative preschool setting. Sacramento Street Preschool, part of the Agassiz Baldwin Community organization, has been providing a nurturing preschool experience for over thirty years in the Cambridge community. Our intimate program is located in a large Victorian house with access to a beautiful tree-shaded back yard.
Responsible for
• Collaborative curriculum development with current Lead Teacher/Director
• Leading engaging, creative and developmentally appropriate activities
• Co-planning monthly schedule of program events
• Supervision of afternoon naptime
• Communication with preschool families as needed
• Routine maintenance of physical space
• Acquisition, storage and upkeep of supplies
• Preparation of food items appropriate to the program
Knowledge and Skills Necessary
• Self-directed and flexible co-teacher
• Awareness and appreciation of cultural and family diversity
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with co-workers and families
• Interest in emergent curriculum and in continued growth as an educator
• Interest in integrating the arts, music and science in a classroom setting
• Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia philosophy a plus
• Spanish or Japanese language proficiency a plus
Position Qualifications
• At minimum, Preschool Teacher Certified as specified by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC or OCCS) professional childcare qualifications.
• Lead Teacher qualified a plus.
• AA, BA, or BS in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
• A minimum of one year of documented professional teaching experience with young children required.
• Availability to begin on September 1st, 2009

Project Director - Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center
The Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center (MMVAC) is seeking a part-time interim (10 month) project director to oversee the management of building construction and initial program planning and design. The recipient of a recent Massachusetts Cultural Council Facilities Fund Grant, MMVAC will begin construction of a 3700 square foot building providing art experiences for community children and studio space for practicing artists. The center will be managed by the Agassiz Baldwin Community, an action oriented neighborhood organization, working with its community partners – Lesley University, Cambridge Public Schools, Art Institute of Boston, the Cambridge Arts Council, and the Project Co-Arts program at Project Zero at Harvard University. The MMVAC will meet two widely acknowledged needs of the community: 1) there is a lack of high quality arts education programs designed specifically for school age children and 2) the community’s artist residents sorely need studio space and exhibition venues.
We are looking for a personable, flexible, highly organized individual who can knit diverse components into a cohesive program over the construction year beginning September 2009 and ending June 2010. This will include program planning, community outreach activities, fund raising/event management, coordinating efforts of the various partners and advisory committees, working with current ABC staff, and collaborating with ABC staff to schedule events at the Sacramento Street Gallery and for Introducing Arts, our performance series for children.
This is a 10-month part time (20 hours) contract position.
Responsibilities include:
• Program Planning and Management During Construction Phase
o Work with advisory committee, building committee and ABC program staff
o Take over program management of temporary studio classes
o Supervise temporary program staff
o Develop outreach for temporary programs ---continue to increase visibility all year
o Grant writing, fund raising events coordination, support to fund raising staff
• Program planning for Maud Morgan Arts Studio in New Building
o Assist ABC Program Director to plan and schedule preschool through 5th grade program opportunities
o Work with staff to develop all marketing materials for studio programs
o Create outreach plan to identify participants for 1st year in building
o Develop a studio program (four classes) for middle school students based on Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
o Refine budgets and schedules
o Develop scholarship program/personnel materials with Director of Administration and Finance
o Integrate the Sacramento Street Gallery and Introducing Art Performance series into a comprehensive whole under Maud Morgan Arts Programs
o Develop possible opportunities for practicing artists
• Master classes (two during planning year)
• Art exhibitions with partners
• Develop other opportunities to support practicing Cambridge artists
• Program Planning with Partners
o Work with CPS arts coordinator to identify and recruit students
o Work with the Art Institute of Boston (soon to move to Cambridge) to create an Arts District, share space, and coordinate programming
o Work with Cambridge Arts Council for funding, events and opportunities for events
o Work with Baldwin School staff on space and collaborative events and shows
o Work with other after school programs and other arts agencies for opportunities
o Work with Project Zero of Harvard Graduate School of Education, including Project Co-Arts
Additional Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Knowledge and understanding of project management with a focus on articulated goals and outcomes
• Experience in art project management and planning
• Experience working with volunteer committees and community partnerships
• Deep respect for artists and the value of arts education
• Ability to self-start, work independently
• Demonstrated excellence in
o Completing projects within given timelines and budgets
o Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
o Independently initiate and pursue objectives in an organized and efficient manner, prioritize activities, and maintain level of activity without direct supervision
o Leading and managing professional staff and community volunteers as individuals and as a team
o Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing
o Demonstrate ease in relating to a diverse range of people
o Computer literacy including Macintosh systems and Microsoft Office Suite; graphic design software experience a plus
