Recent Additions to NAEAACLD Website

The NAEAACLD announced on December 11, 2007, the release of the organization's first quarterly newsletter.  Click here to select the first issue and subsequent issues as they become available.  Keep up with the current challenges facing African American children struggling to succeed in school and learn what you can do to help change the condition of education in this country.

The National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities (NJCLD) has released a report that outlines important concerns about documentation issues related to students with disabilities as they transition from high school to college.  Click here to read The Documentation Disconnect for Students with Learning Disabilities:  Improving Access to Postsecondary Disability Services in its entirety.

Note to Website Visitors

The National Association for the Education of African American Children with Learning Disabilities (NAEAACLD) is continually updating this website in order to bring you as much information and as many resources as possible.  Your requests for information and details of your experiences help us to determine what should be added to the website and where our work should be focused.  However, we are sometimes unable to individually respond to all of the many inquiries we receive on a regular basis, even though we try.

Therefore, please read through these pages carefully.  If the information you are seeking is not there, email us with your questions.  Every inquiry should include a mailing address and telephone number so that we can add your name to our database for future mailings and send you a copy of our publication, One Child at a Time . . . A Parent Handbook and Resource Directory for African American Families with Children Who Learn Differently.  If you do not receive a timely response to your inquiry, check back to see if any new information has been added to the website.

The website and our parent handbook do not contain exactly the same information.  So, please utilize both.  Most of all, remember that in the present day educational environment, there are no "quick fixes" for helping a child who learns differently.  It will take years to change a failing system.  Parents must be committed to learning as much as possible about how to exercise their rights and responsibilities under federal law and use that knowledge throughout their child's education.  The educational success of our children depends on each of us.

We wish for you and your family a very successful and rewarding journey!

Sincerely,

The NAEAACLD Staff
