Events in 2008
April 28th – May 3rd - The EmpowerLA Collaborative is made up of nonprofit organizations that currently have mentoring programs in schools. We plan to recruit well over 1,000 new mentors during Volunteer Recognition Week.
May 4th - Over 50,000 volunteers clean up Los Angeles in approximately 200 projects throughout L.A.
Los Angeles Sparks @ Staples Center
June 6th - Sponsored by the Los Angeles Mentoring Coalition for Youth, 8,700 empowered youth will help kick off the opening game for this 2008 season. The theme for this event will to Learn it, Live it, Pass it on
Pass It On Student Mentoring Program
September 11, 2008 – We, The World (WTW) along with EmpowerLA collaborative holds a competition for students to draw the world logo and or the world as well as writing a one page paper on what they would do to help make their classroom or school a better place. EmpowerLA Directors (trained and screened volunteers and mentors) plan to implement the winning ideas into programs at the chosen schools. This program is currently being developed.
The Shift
December, 2008 – Film Release - This film in association with EmpowerLA is made by the movement that is already happening. We learn that Los Angeles is leading the world in people helping people.
