Tuscany-United States of America: a Special Cultural and Social Relationship
|
The Association’s biggest and most authoritative project so far has been the publication of a book on the ties binding Tuscany and the United States of America. Originally just an idea, it became a reality thanks to Professor Ennio Di Nolfo’s commitment and editorial talents and thanks to the support of the United States Consulate General in Florence, the significant backing of the Region of Tuscany and the contributions of public and private institutions, organizations and corporations.
The authors of the essays in the book are all experts in their various fields; the unifying theme is that of the relations – whether historical, cultural, social or economic – between Tuscany and America for over two hundred years, from before the War of Independence to today. A vast collection of photographs document the essays, which range from concrete topics like wine, fashion and the Carrara marble industry to reflections on how history, culture, the arts, literature, music, cinema, and economics have woven the destinies of Tuscans and Americans together.
This rich heritage of moral values, special interests and relationships must not be lost or tarnished; it must be enhanced and expanded upon, which is the purpose of the Association’s book. This vivid and vital documentation of the truly special relationship between Tuscany and the United States of America also bears an important message for future generations, so that they may remember, treasure and continue to develop these ties of friendship through cultural and social exchanges.
