Our Services
Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is the therapeutic use of self-care, work and play activities to increase independent function and to enhance development; and may include adaptation of tasks or the environment to enhance quality of life.
Occupational Therapy addresses fine motor, self-help and sensory motor delays. The child is evaluated in a holistic manner to help improve their functional status in all aspects of their lives including school and home. A variety of modalities are used to address delays such as developmentally appropriate arts/crafts, tabletop activities, life skill activities as well as group and social interactions.
Upper extremity splints as well as other basic adapted equipment can be fabricated by the OT Department in consultation with your child's physician.
Physical Therapy. In order for a child to receive Physical Therapy, an evaluation needs to be performed to fully assess a child’s needs. Evaluations performed at another facility may be accepted as long as they are current and complete. Our therapists will address the gross motor and sensory needs of the children in order to maximize their ability to negotiate their environment as safely and independently as possible.
Treatments occur in our bright and cheerful treatment space where the children have the opportunity to utilize a variety of therapeutic equipment. The Center provides specialized seating, standers and walkers, which are available to be used during the school day, if appropriate. Consultation with classroom staff and other team members occurs on a regular basis and at team meetings.
Parents are encouraged to consult with therapists regarding their children’s needs. We are available to assist families with home equipment and are also willing to share our experiences in working with local orthotists and other specialists.
Speech Therapy Each child is thoroughly evaluated by a therapist in the areas of oral motor function, feeding skills, speech productivity and expressive and receptive language development. Our staff is very knowledgeable in alternate and augmentative communication which may include but not be limited to sign language, communication boards, picture exchange communication system(PECS), computer use and access, and the use of various electronic speech output devices to supplement speech and language development in our children.

Assistive Technology The Assistive Technology Team consists of speech therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapists who evaluate and make recommendations and adaptations to equipment to meet the needs of our children. The Children's Therapy Center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to use with the children to facilitate success and independence. On-site school visitations and evaluations are also provided by the center to area districts who need technology assistance.

Music Therapy. The Music Therapy Program at The Children's Therapy Center is developed and implemented by a Music Therapist/Teacher of people with disabilities. It is designed to help and guide students toward expressing their own creativity while meeting their emotional, cognitive and social needs.
Music Therapy is provided to students in our early enrichment program, preschool and primary classes. Music is used to support a student’s goals and objectives in the Individualized Education Plan. During a music therapy session, students are encouraged to increase play skills by exploring a variety of instruments, strengthen fine and gross motor coordination skills through movement activities, and increase communications skills by singing with voice or adaptive communication devices.

Music therapy sessions are provided twice a week in a group or individual basis. Throughout the school year, classes are encouraged to participate in our winter show or other structured musical activities.
Social Work Services The Social Worker provides families with community resources such as workshops, meetings and other events in the community that can give the family practical information for day-to-day living. The Social Worker also facilitates monthly informal meetings. Topics include Pediatric Dentistry, Nutrition, Estate Planning for Children with Special Needs, and others suggested by parents and staff.
The Social Worker can assist with assessment and referrals to appropriate agencies for entitlements such as Social Security and the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Unlike Social Security, The Catasrophic Illness Fund and the Division of Developmental Disabilities are not based on income. Once a child is accepted into the program, the family can submit receipts to be reimbursed for therapies and equipment which are not covered by insurance. Summer camp programs, communication devices, and modifications to the home or van are a few examples. The Social Worker will help you with the application process and answer any questions that you may have about the program.
Short-term counseling is available and referrals for individual, family and group therapy can be given.
