Sandra Soroka to lead Neighborhood Center
Sandra Soroka, who was one of a dozen applicants for the lead role at The Neighborhood Center, Inc., has been selected to be the Center’s Executive Director. Sandra has served as the interim director since Virginia Barney resigned in December. She has worked at the center since 1999 as a case supervisor and director of services.
“We felt that Sandra Soroka was the best candidate to continue leading the agency forward,” board president Frank Donato said.
Soroka said she has new programs planned for the century-old center and will begin unveiling them next week.
“We are here to meet the voids in the community and fill in the service gaps,” she said.
Sandy acknowledges that there are “challenges ahead” for the center, especially financially - “I think this is just the beginning of the federal, state and local cuts to funding,” she said. “But internally, we are a strong agency and very stable. We're doing what everyone else is doing, cutting back and being as cost efficient as we possibly can.”
The Center’s mission is to respond to the human needs of our community and with the selection of Soroka as leader, this mission will not only continue, but expand!
