Francisca is a very special 23-year old woman from
Honduras. She was the unfortunate victim of severe burns to her legs
as a 4-month-old that prevented their normal growth and relegated
her to a life on her hands and knees. Upon hearing of our presence
through radio announcements, Francisca came with her father by bus
to see if there was anything that could be done for her. Everyone on
the team was immediately impressed with her indomitable spirit and
her ever-present smile. Arrangements were made to help correct her
leg deformities and to replace them with prostheses. Francisca's
spirit was infectious, everyone fell in love with her and spent many
hours with her to help her dream of walking come true. Francisca is
now back in Honduras and attending school. She can walk on her own,
and occasionally uses a crutch to help her balance.
