Thousands that once before did not have access to healthcare
services are now able, for the first time, to enjoy the benefits of
adequate medical attention as a result of the Small World Foundation's
dedication to bringing relief to the remote areas of many developing
nations.
Typically a medical mission includes enough personnel
to have two teams operating simultaneously, using general anesthesia,
as well as a third "mini-team" for minor surgeries, operating room nurses
and technicians, recovery room and intensive care pediatric nurses.
Non-medical volunteers have contributed services such
as record keeping, translating and general troubleshooting. Teams work
in cooperation with local doctors and medical facilities.
Our multi-specialty team also enables us to broaden
our services as the need arises.

Since
1995, we have conducted many medical missions to Central America,
South America and the Middle East. We have also brought many
patients from foreign countries to the United States for specialized
treatment. Poverty and limited access to medical care are factors
that elevate the rate of birth defects, such as cleft lip and
palate.
Our plastic surgery specialty has allowed the Small
World Foundation to bring hope ans smiles by changing lives and
touching the hearts of the least fortunate ones.
